Mun Posted April 8, 2010 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Was wondering if Heavy barbell holds just letting the weight hang down from your arms like the top position of a deadlift or holding a barbell but without shrugging the weight and just letting it hang works the traps to great degree? i tried just holding the bar with a weight too heavy to shrug and my traps were soar the next day, is this common? Volko Krull Posted April 8, 2010 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Yes absolutely. Your basically doing an isometric shrug. Good technique that is. Keep that up, increase weight by two 10s or two 25s every 2 or 3 weeks or so and you'll get shapelier and stronger traps than you would from doing shrugs.
