Unusual Workout Yesterday

Went to the Urbana landscape recycling center yesterday to get some free firewood. Anything they can't fit in the chipper, goes in bulk wood & is free if you can load it. So took the son & the chainsaw & headed out. After a few arrands, I was a little tight on time (story of my life), so I just figured the heck with the chainsaw & I'd throw whatever I could lift in the truck in 10 min & go. There were some massive chunks of oak, cherry, maple and some apple, so I was very pleased. One chunk of oak drew me to it, and I figured if I made a ramp it'd go. I'm not sure of the weight, but it was about 44" high, and maybe 38"-42" across. I big chunk. I had to work pretty hard just to tip it over to roll it. Took me two tries to get it in the truck. Was all I could do even with the ramp. I'm guessing better part of 700-800lbs, maybe more. The truck was massively overloaded by the time I got 2 more big pieces of oak & some of the others. The tires were rubbing the fenderwells when I hit a bump. I'm good on firewood for the winter, and all for free. My bi's are really sore from forcing that thing up the ramp. Now I get to split it all (by hand). More good workouts!

That's a cool story, sometimes stuff like that can test you more than a planned workout. I like weird type functional stuff like that.

At my work (I work on a grocery loading dock) there is a certain truck load we get from a different distribution center with products we don't have at our warehouse that we have to unload and send out with our normal shipments. Well because it is from one warehouse to another and not a store, they don't really stack or load the truck very well so allot of stuff is usually fallen over or leaning severely. With big heavy pallets, like a 7' tall stack of wine cases, most guys just down stack them on to another pallet.

Well I HATE doing double work and wasting time fixing stuff other people messed up. So I climb onto on stack and leg press the top open between the two stacks and drop myself into the hole and push the thing back up. This is very awkward and much harder than it might sound, no one else at my work attempts this and they are usually pretty amused watching me do it. I was pushing so hard the other day I had pressure marks along my shoulder like I was shouldering a stone. You are right John, the weird pulling movements can really strain your biceps too. I even had pressure marks along my biceps from pulling against stuff as well.

Your supevisor would shat himself if an OSHA inspector rolled in during your performance :D
