MalachiMcMullen
Then hold your own comp, call it the English Grip Championships, or even the Regional Qualifiers, associate with the BHSA, use events you pick, approach the sponsors you want, advertize to your heart's content and see how it goes. Your first contest right out the gate is NOT going to be some big event. It can be bigger than most first comps, but unless you get a seasoned promoter in there and some other incentives, it wont be some huge sport-changing thing. "All or nothing" is not a good business plan to start with. There are mediums that can be reached. For example, you getting your feet wet promoting and getting more people involved in grip by advertizing the competition, would NOT be a small thing. Will it change the sport or get something organized immediately? No. But if you do something different and it works, it WILL get the ball rolling on that change to be made at more contests. As I said, not every contest needs to be a "championship." You can have challenges, qualifiers, simple contests, etc. There is no reason to hold your own championship, but if you must, make it a specific championship. If you associate with the BHSA and can make your contest a qualifier, that is moving the sport forward as well by cooperating with a sanctioning body. Not everything is black and white Paul. Mike Betty
Paul It would be a shame for you to give up at the first hurdle. Let me throw this into the hat why not run a UK/British Novice contest. That way you get new blood into the sport on get a few more names down for the BIG Comp of the year the one you all want to win the British grip championships. Just my 2 cent from someone who care little about grip but loves a good contest.
