james_grahame
Here is some info/results from the first strongman comp I have ever organised. I have copied several posts from aussiestrength.com so apologies if it is a little disjointed. It was essentially open to all with novices and more experienced guys attending on the day. I had Bill Lyndon helping me out (ex WSM qualifier) and Derek Boyer (Australia's strongest man) was the guest on the day. Here was the poster... East Coast Strongestman Qualifyer Comp Result.Doherty's gym Light weight 105'skg 1st James Graham 20 pts 2nd Triston woods 18pts 3rd jordan Stephens 16pts 4th Ivan Zovko 3pts Heavy wht 1st Luke reynolds 18 pts won six for six 2nd Matt Williams 9pts 3rd Matt Maddox 6 pts Pat Beson Injured Tom Basic (Guest) Detailed results to follow There were the inevitable format changes at the last minute and i will take the flak for that. the biggest change was that the course was reduced to 15M for OH&S reasons. I underestimated how much safe space was required between people/equipment for a proper competition. Bill Lyndon and Tony Doherty(correctly) changed a few things to keep everyone alive. clearly i am a deep fried mars bar risk taker and a novice organiser! Apologies to the lifters for that, as I know they all trained for the 25m. They gave me abuse for most of the day about it. Aussies have no fear about letting their opinions known! All the equipment was weighed and the figures presented below are all accurate. These figs below are in event order but not nececessaily best lifter first. super yoke 260kg x 15m Jordan Steffens James Grahame Tristan woods Ivan Zovko super yoke 300kg x 15m Luke Reynolds matt williams matt maddox Derek Boyer 400kg x 15m 165kg duckwalk x 15m James Grahame Tristan Woods tom Basic Matt Williams Matt Maddox Luke Reynolds Jordan Steffen Ivan Zovko Derek Boyer Farmers walk 112kg x 15m then 132kg x 15m. So the comp used the same equipment for farmers, duckwalk, overhead, stones and we all went head to head. I think it worked pretty well, i thnk it showed the difference in ability to the crowd. Also worth mentioning that some of the weights seem unusual e.g.farmers 112kg, 132kg etc. well, that's what happens to novice organisers who publish the weights before he gets the kit officially weighed. Here is the official weigh in for the 191 stone. hope you can see the display. I got a ego bashing when my 150kg stone turned out to weigh 136  Man, I was bragging when I lifted that..now I have to apologise for being a youtube hero!! I never realised that Derek's stone-over-yoke was a record and accidently buried it in amongst other stuff. I got an email from Bill.... "pic 006 verification by F.A.S.C. OF 191.6 k.g. Stone @52'' new Australian Record. All F.A.S.C. records must be attempeted/broken in F.A.S.C Sanctioned events only." Here it is again If these links don't work all the fottage from this comp...and other grip comps I have run..training stuff etc....are here http://au.youtube.com/user/bigdinnie Edited May 26, 2009 by james_grahame

james_grahame
James, was Jono MacFarlane competing here? Thanks guys. It was a good day out. No, Jono was not there. I think he is scheduled to be at Sydney's Strongest man comp on the 28th July. www.ozstrongman.com.au has all the details. The same organisation has a major event for later in the year as well with some huge international names http://www.usc-strongman.com/
