Nervous System

This may be a silly question, but when you train any muscle, does the nervous system adapt along with the muscle/ligaments to handle increased weight (or endurance)?

The nervous system is much like a muscle. It is used whenever you flex, but it must be stressed in a deliberate manner to adapt and become stronger. So, the answer is yes. But, to work the nervous system, you must use heavy loads (grippers, barbells, whatever the case may be). The take home point has to do with adaptation. Your neural system adapts more quickly and remains adapted longer than your muscles/ligaments/tendons. This being the case, you should work with sub maximal (60 to 70% 1rm) resistance for at least 6 to 8 weeks before working with near maximal weights (80 to 100% 1rm). Practically speaking, only those who regularly train with weights should focus their program on stimulating the nervous system with maximal loads.
