My question is simple. How to prevent rust from our grippers? And if we already have a rust how to clean the gripper?

I use fine steel wool and WD40. Reapply WD40 from time to time to prevent.

I use gun oil and a rag. If rust has built up put a coat of oil on the spring and take a brush, I have used a real stiff tooth brush, or some light steel wool and scrub. I oil and clean my grippers about once a month if they are just sitting around.

isn't WD40 water based?

I don't think so, it burns pretty well.

The WD on WD40 stands for "Water Displacement." So no, it is not water based

yes it is a water displacement agent. i use it on my motorcycle drive chain. it leaves a slight film which is a rust inhibitor which has to be reapplied in a timely fashion depending on its application.

Is it a good idea to do this on my 1991 silver crush and 1964 ironman gripper?
