Amy's Grip Journey

i had a bad start into grip. did a lot of things wrong, and took a break to learn how to start out the right way. it took a bit of my strength,but it also has made the sound in my wrist go away for the bb wrist curl. this time i wil be following david horne's beginner routine from the faq section at the start untill i achieve a more respectable strength level. it will start out twice a week, tuesdays and fridays, the days following my 'rest of body training'.

TUESDAY 8-8-06

1. 2 hand pinch 3x50lbx15 sec. no gloves. weight kept sliding through with them and the weight does not bother my skin

2. finger curls bb1x20x45,50,55 with hold

3. wrist curls bb 1x15x45,50,45

4. reverse wrist curls bb 3x15x26.5

my forearms felt like a peice of wood at the curls and for a while after the routine. thanks david. (they do feel fine now)

FRIDAY 8-11-06

1. two hand pinch 3x50x15sec

2. finger curls 1x20x46,51,56

swithed to my 41lb womens oly bar. seemed better on this one for my hand size.

3. bb wrist curl 1x18x45 1x15x50

4. bb reverse wrist curl 1x20x26.5,31.5

WEDNSDAY 8-16-06

1. pinch 3x50x15sec

will try 20sec next time with a little more weight on the last.

2. finger curls 1x20x46,51,56

3. wrist curls 1x15x45,40

4. reverse curls 1x20x26.5,31.5,36.5

a day late, but still done.

TUESDAY 8-22-06

1. pinch 1x15secx50,55

forgot to do a 3rd set and to try 20 sec. since i lost my old journal and have been using scrap paper waiting for new one t arrive. wil do friday.

2. finger curls 1x20x51,56,61

3. wrist curl 1x20x45,50,55 with hold

4. reverse wrist curl 1x20x31.5,36.5

brought weights up. felt good.

my grip has been getting fried at work, so i'm happy with this. i barely held for the 15 in the pinch, but the curls felt good and the first 2 can stand to go up. will see if i can go back to 2 a week next week. the long weekend should help with recovering. i have noticed that my grip has increased as far as how i use it in my job since i seem to be able to do things a little easier, or actually being able to do without help, than i have in the past :rock .

i'm up to a full 20 on the pinch, can do more on the finger curl, and upped the wrist curls. can do more on the reverse curl.

upped weight to see if i could go further than i thought. i had more to go on the pinch and finger curls.

TUESDAY 9-12-06

someone t'd me off and i blindly loaded the bar. thought it was light then started counting plates. good news is that im not stopping to curl up early since i drop the bar here and there, not just this wo, but next as well. will go back the 'machine' since i dont think my bar would like being dropped on pins every grip day.

3.wrist curls 1x20x51,61,71

4. r.wrist curls 1x20x41,46,51

the wrist curls have been terrible for cheating. switching back to peg2.

FRIDAY 9-15-06

1. pinch 1x20x50,55,60

2. finger curl 1x20x61,71,81

3. peg2 wrist curl 1x20x5 1x16x7.5 (5,2.5)

4. peg2 r. wrist curl 2x20

peg2 set me on fire. better for me than the bb. felt real good.

Great work Amy , keep it up! My 12 year old daughter trains grip. I have videoed her closing an Ironmind Trainer. She has surpised a lot of the men with her gripper work. Here is a link to her video.

FRIDAY 9-22-06

will have to lower these temporarily. the new routine is kicking my butt so hard i am still sore. everywhere. wed. i still felt like i was punched in the ribs from the band twists from monday.

3. peg wc 1x20x2.5, (2.5x2plates), (2.5x3 plates)

4. peg rwc 2x20x bare

i have, but i put i am putting it aside for a while. i bought the kta out of curiosity and it opened my eyes to the fact that i need to make sure i have a higher level of overall strength before picking the da bck up again, at least for training level settings. i pick it up on the lowest setting here and there just to close it. i think i will bring it back in full time sometime around jan.. i miss using it as often as i did, but first things first.
