Roark
Some months ago about 100 of the Inch replica bells had been sold, and I assume the great majority sit sleeping in American/Canadian/Mexican places because of the shipping costs. If you own an Inch replica, please post, at least in general terms, where it is (Illinois, Florida), or if you know of where one is, please post. Any countries other than the three listed above? Thank you.
David Horne
Interesting post. Try asking Randy at Ironmind and Richard at Sorinex. David
Roark
David, I assumed because of customer confidentiality the vendors would be hesitant to reveal that info, but in general terms, you're right, they may be willing, so Richard? Sybersnott
Roark..... I could go for a funny one-liner, but decided NOT to. IronMind won't give out details (but you can TRY... doesn't hurt). I won't speak for Richard. Needless to say, I'm thinking most of them are being used as dust collectors or as a very expensive paperweight. Face it, how many guys do you know that own one train with them on a daily basis? You could probably count them on your hand..... Glad I didn't get one. I can't lift my plate loaded PDA Inch DB the way it is - NOW I haffta train!! :p :p
Guest
Don't forget that Bruce White has the oldest Inch Replica of them all, here in Australia (in Western Australia - ONLY about 5 hours away by plane!) And while I'm here - Joe/David do you have the exact measurements of the Inch because instead of shipping one all this way I might get one made up here myself later this year. I have some reading material here but most of my collection is still in the UK so until next year I'll have to rely on your excellent resources. Actually, do you have the dimensions of Herman Gorner's Challenge Barbell too? Thanking you, Nick
Rick Browne
Roark, In the March 2002 issue of Milo, on page 5 shows a pic of a guy in Austin Texas, lifting the inch replica to just below belt level. He states that it will be kept at his gym (named the Zoo) and that he will give a 1 yr. free membership to anyone that can lift it off the floor... Moving to Austin Joe? Roark
Nick, The oldest replica may in fact have belonged to the Saxon brothers, if Inch was reporting accurately when he mentioned that out of their frustration at being unable to lift his, they had one made, conquered it, took it on the road as a challenge bell, returned, tried the Inch bell, and failed with it. So though this may not have been an exact replica, I'd like to have it sitting here as part of history. Frankly, I do not believe this story. I have the Inch 'rough' measurements, but they are not in the file where they should be, so I'll get back to you. Oops, here they are: The handle though is 2.38" diameter, not 2.47, and is 4" from bell to bell, the overall length is 20 or 20.5", the sphere diameter if 8.5". Sorry about the length- I'll have to do some checking in another file. Unless you plan to make some and sell them it would probably be less expensive to have one shipped to you- the cost of the mold is very high! Don't think I have seen specifics on Goerner's challenge bell, but will check for you. zcor, No need to move to Austin, I have a replica, but thanks for the reference to the replica. I am several months behind in filing so had not noticed this mention.
OldGuy
I am curious to know if David Horne has tried his hand at lifting an Inch replica or Inch type thick handled dumbbell?
1stCoC
Joe, the Inch Replicas ARE sure spread about!I don't mind looking through the files but, it will take some work to compile a state by state list...........RS
Roark
Thanks Richard. If approx 100 have been sold then that is an average of about 2 per state, but I suspect that will not be how it turns out. I offered to take mine to the local GNC and have a contest, but officials declined because of the liabilty aspect- you can claim an injured back even if the bell did not leave the floor. David Horne
Oldguy, No I have not tried the Inch bell or a replica. David
OldGuy
David that surprises me. It it just because of lack of opportunity?
David Horne
Yeah, never seen one, never mind tried to lift it. David
Roark
Talk about missed success! David, you have pinched what, 143 lbs?, so add another 29 lbs and use your entire hand as nature intended. My money is on that you would succeed.
1stCoC
I got my money on Horne the Mighty too!RS
David Horne
Thanks all for the kind words. I'll just have to make do with lifting the Millenium bell instead. David
Sybersnott
David..... you are a heartbreaker, man!! Lift that bell!!! :p
mobsterone
David has had a go at my bell and also, so I heard (DH is this true) the other Steve IAWA Gardners bell.
David Horne
I didn't know that the other Steve had a Inch bell. When did he get this? David
mobsterone
Not an Inch bell but a thick handled dumbbell which I was 'told' you had a go at years back
David Horne
It must be the dumbell that was owned by Peter Byford. So Steve has that now, interesting. I had a go at that 11 years ago. I am a lot, lot stronger now. I know I could clean and press it now. Doesn't time fly! David
Guest baldy
David, you caught my eye with that last reply. Do you also train thick handle dumbell clean and press as opposed to just thick db lifts, or were you just stating how far you have come in the past 11 years? If you do I would assume that your goal (when you encounter an Inch replica) would be to clean / continental and then press / jerk it, not just deadlift it. I don't think anyone here doubts your ability to deadlift an Inch replica.
David Horne
I know that I definitely could deadlift it. I think that someone will clean it soon, and of course press, push press or jerk it. As for thick bar training, we do it when it's in the routine, and it isn't right now. David
Kevin Fulton
I have an Inch Replica that we dust off for people to try at our contests. Right now it is sleeping peacefully in a horse stall in my barn.
jimwylie1
Have you managed to lift it in the past Kevin?
