What ONE Feat Of Grip Would You Choose?

If you had your choice of training and performing ONE feat of grip strength (with it either being a feat of grip strength or a grip stunt), BESIDES anything involving the grippers.... what would it be?   ???

Think about it.  There are LOTS of choices.  Horseshoe bending, nail bending, card tearing, anvil lifting, rolling up a frying pan, pinching two 45 pound plates, etc. - way WAY too many to list!!  :p  :p

As for me:  my vote is to be able to lift the Inch Dumbbell overhead one-handed!!  Wow, to me that signifies "GRIPMASTER"!!!   :0   :0

You don't mean stuff for the Liar's Culb right? How about snatching Apollon's 226lb axle. After all that's what he was trying to do with it right? Or would that qualify for the Liar's Club? If I can't do that, I'd settle for mooshing a raw potato or doing a huge 1 arm deadlift like Goerner's.

The feat that I'd be most interested in performing would be a standing plate curl with 65 pounds or more. It would be done with an Olympic 45 pound plate and additional plates added to that.

If I could do just one feat of grip strength, any one of my choosing, it would be to take a lump of coal in my hand and to squeeze it into a diamond. Not only would I have very strong hands, but I would also be a hit with the ladies, and probably quite wealthy.

If I had to choose one feat of grip strength... hmmmm...

being able to crush a beer bottle cap with just my pinky finger and thumb, and having commensurate strength in my other fingers. If I could do that, I could do anything.

Realistically speaking (or is it?), being able to crush a beer bottle cap with just my middle finger and thumb would be fantastic.

Hey, I just tried doing it. I could get it about a 1/4 of the way.

Lifting the Millenium Dumbell to waist height would be nice.

It's highly unlikely that I'll ever even be able to lift an Inch off the ground....ah but dreams are such wonderful things.....!

blueshadow and 7913,

I said NO gripper stuff!!  Of course, EVERYONE is gunning for the #3!!  But, besides the grippers... what would you like to do in terms of grip?  I guess you could call this a "grip fantasy".   :p  :p  :p

tdave,

Plate curling 2 x 10k plates smooth sides out with one hand is possible. Did it with my left and right hands in todays session after seeing your post.

I was not aware that pinch gripping was part of the gripper environment. Ok, then : I have this idea of a one arm chin. Look feasible in a 12-18 months frame...

Okay, How's this, I would like to clean and press a 100lb anvil for three reps! I have a 55lb and a 70 lb anvil that I'm working on right now but not a 100lb'r!  :0

2 stunts I'd like to duplicate.

1. Can't remember who did this one specifically, but I'm sure someone will recognize it. An English penny was soldered to a 60 lb block of lead and lifted with a index finger and thumb only pinch grip. I think Brookfield mentioned it in his book and I've seen it cited elsewhere as well.

2. Levering 20 lb. sledge hammers, one in each hand. I love doing levering, right 10lb is my best.

"Young Apollon" [J.C.Tolson] soldered an English penny

(about the size of a U.S. quarter, onto the top of a 65

pound block of lead and was able to pinch lift the affair with thumb and forefinger.

Laurence Chappell could also do this. Tolson weighed 159 and

Chappell 165, and at that time (1933) Cahppell held the

right hand deadlift reocrd at 502 lbs.

See Ironman Nov 1976 p 30ff for Willoughby's article on

"Feats of Strength With Pinch-Grip Lifting".

Willoughby speculated that Bruce White would also be capable of this feat.

blueshadow,

Why don't you just wrap a chain around your anvil, and add weights to it?  That's what I did with mine.   ;)

Good idea, Syber! Never thought of that, I just happen to have some chains that I use to micro load on bench and squats that I can use for this! Add another one to the list, this is great, man! Keeps my routine from getting stale, Thanks again!
