chrlslee1
I did plate curls for the first time today and while doing them it felt as if the top half of my fingers were going to break off. Anyone else have this problem?

Anyone else have this problem? ← I think that's the point! They put lots of stress on the fingers and rist, thus strengthening them. If it's too much, just use less weight at first until you're stronger. Also, try plate wrist curls - just like a plate curl, but only curl the wrist, like a wrist curl. kelby
when my students are working quietly. i grap to ten pound plates and curl them aand also do wrist curls with them. then to my suprise i tried the 25s they didn't seem that hard. i also wrist curl and curl chairs, i grab them from the top. i don't go to failure, just curl and breath. it is working out good for me. that is how my finger were, when i wrist curled them. i did ten reps one time, but i did not feel good cause it was not slow and strict. carusom1
Should the hand be in line with the wrist for the curl to be ligit? With too much weight, the hand will bend back but may still be able to curl. thanks
foggymountainmuscle
Part of the aspect of the plate curl is to bring up your finger strength with your wrist. This makes your wrist strength far more functional if you can apply it farther out. Thick bar wrist work doesnt' feel the same, but it also puts alot more pressure out on your fingers, and will make them stronger. As far as I'm concerned, if you can curl it in a strict, smooth fashion, it's ligit. If your wrist and fingers bend back excessively, you are very likely to cheat and should probably stick to a lower weight so as not to injure yourself. Also don't let the tips of your fingers bend back excessively, this is painful and you may hyper-extend them. When I do plate curls, I try to dig into the plate with my finger tips, having them bend slightly towards me. I find this to be a stronger hold and that it avoids hyper extension problems. foggymountainmuscle
http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?showtop...e+wrist+curl+45 There, I found the topic. I retract my previous statement but the topic above it has been discusses as 1 very possible, and 2 a person is rather close to accomplishing it. carusom1
thanks foggy- I guess my lazy a$# could have just looked for that, but it would still be cool to see some proof I think there is a video where david horne wrist curls a 35, this is dam impressive and david is about as strong as they get ( a 45, David???) I think it would be possible to plate curl (bicep) a 45 in strict manner. I was just wondering if anyone has done it. I think there is another video of gorilla hands plate curling a 45, but it definately is not strict (still impressive). the plate curl would be a great feat to accomplish (I'm not so sure about the wrist curl, this seems extremely difficult, but who knows) thanks

thabull
and guys dont forget that a 45 is about 3 times harder to curl than a 25 because the weight (ofcourse) and the leverage. (and its thicker) and on internet i saw a guy named shaun hainan or something doing a plate curl with a 45 + a 10 lbs added weight plate (not strict but still very impressive)
