I was not planning to make an attempt at 400 (raw with sleeves) today, but 385 felt so strong, I went for it.  It's been a long time since I've squatted 400 raw (no gear and/or wraps).  It wasn't an easy rep, but decent in depth and speed.  For years, after my knee injury, I wouldn't go above the low 300s before getting into briefs and knee wraps, so it is really cool to get back to this point, especially closing in on 45 and with over 30 years of squatting wear-and-tear.

Liking the higher reps myself. They seem to have finally pulled me out of a 4 year plateau on grippers. 8-12 rep range seems to work and the reps get easier each week.

Axle bench felt awesome today!  Might have gotten a 4th rep with the 305 if I had a spotter.

Braced was tough today!  Haven't been down in this territory for a long time, but it's starting to come back.  The 7.5" HRS snap was a tough bend.  Hands are shot and a totally exhausting bend!

Another tough 5/8" braced bend.  Reverse has always been hit-or-miss with me, but is starting to feel stronger with the reps I've been getting in.

Took the 26" bar down in just under 2 minutes.  😃  Have never bent the shorter/mid-stuff this fast.  Definitely a different mindset.  I tried the 19/64" bar DU and could have probably gotten a better first hit, but didn't want to go 100% all-out this close to the bending comp.  The 18/64" bar felt like 1/4" stock.

Bay State Bending Bash I
Sherborn, Massachusetts

Overall: 2nd place

Write-up: https://www.gripboard.com/index.php?/topic/48697-2018-april-bay-state-bending-bash-1-carl-donati-jr/

Just to add a few things to the above write-up ...
*  It was an awesome experience and super-motivating to compete live against other like-minded (i.e. crazy benders) people.
*  Now that it is over, I'm depressed (I underestimated how much this has driven my training the past few months).
*  Everyone put in so much time and effort to make this happen, and it will always be appreciated.
*  I want to do this again soon!

I'm amazed you trained Monday and Wednesday after that bending comp - really awesome - I totally still feel like I'd injure the hell out of myself haha

LOL.  Aside from some manageable hand pain and a little shoulder stiffness, all is pretty good.  I needed to train.  Taking most of last week off was too much ... just feeling way too edgy!  I was tempted to bend but might wait a few days.
