Cant compete in wsh now, dont have any time to train. Despite the actual training going well, the prep was already going terrible, starting new relationship and other things making that so but now i also dont have any time to train so its impossible. For those who have followed me for a number of years, some of you may also know that i play poker on a side to my job / grip and strength training. What ive recently realised (during this prep) is that im very much not suited to typical online poker tournaments that have fast structures (so that the online casino can get people out of tournaments quick so get them in another/make more money) and a lot of luck and gambling involved as im a very patient player, hate taking risks etc for whatever reason, i never played the slow style tournanents before recently but as soon as i did i got instant success and its still the case. Im earning more money playing poker than i do in my job now and its without much practice/form and at low stakes. Theres petential to earn a lot more an make a career of it. It wasnt something i was expecting, had gave up on the idea to be honest but if you can make a career of poker you basically set your own hours, the potential for a raise if you will is always there, and its tax free money. Ive been wanting to get out of my job for about 6 month and want to buy a house as soon as possible so im giving it a real go. The issues with it are that the only tournament i can enter whilst working my job is one that finishes at 6am the next morning, so if i finish top 2 (already have) i get only 2.5 hours sleep. Also mondays or if i have sunday off is the only chance i have to play earlier tournaments (and higher money ones), which would be when i train grip. Any nights im not playing will be spent with girlfriend so i basically dont have any way of doing any proper training. Even on my lunch id be likely to go back mine for a 30 minute nap rather than train. What i can do is anything that takes less than 5 minutes on poker breaks, along with titan telegraph training as i play, so thats the plan. I will try to keep improving but right now cant be my focus. Im thinking ill probably do romanian deadlift / shrug combo with fat gripz inch style dumbbells and gradually work up to heavier weights, 1 warm up 1 work set etc then maybe some 3" fat bar pull ups in work an bodyweight stuff with band exercises thrown in / titan sometimes whilst playing poker.

Oh an im not going to be eating very much during this time, again, not a focus, less bodyweight will better sleep when i do get it too. Ill probably be eating 3-4 times a day rather than 6-10. I figure the positive of this is that if i can get to doing 70kg inch style dumbbells for 10-15 romanian deadlift / shrug without eating much, no supplements etc when i do get the time to focus on grip i will already have a big base to build from without really trying, which will mean a lot of progress from there.

Shoulder warm up

Push ups on 3" thickbar

- x 20

Dips

- x 20

Single arm side lateral superset front raise

- x 20/15 both arms

Advice time (not about gambling): as someone who has worked for themselves (as you know) the issue you mention of setting your own hours applies. So... use a few of the winnings to set up a home gym and plan on, for now, maintenance.

Oh and winnings are tax free but I'd look at getting an accountant asap. HMG is considering tax on Poker winnings and if it's your only source of income there may be issues it's worth paying an accountant for. Get advice.

Already have a home gym at this point, also gym i go to is 24 hour currently also but i basically dont have time to go anyway for the most part. However, its likely i will have to move to manchester an sell up most of my gym to go so just have see how it goes. I will look into that.

No chalk

Fat gripz romanian dumbbell deadlift/shrug

- 27.5kg's x 10, 50kg's x 12

Alternate single leg box squat

- x 20

Titan telegraph

- 5kg x 40 with thumbs

Extensors

- x 40 each hand

These dumbbells not only have thick handles so the fat gripz come nowhere near to touching, but they are also solid weight welded so basically every time i put fat gripz on one its essentially an inch dumbbell. I will simply try for another rep each time till i get to 20 reps then switch to 52.5kg's.

I have no idea about what's been building up or anything about it. You mean the £50 log lift bet on sugden? I was going to pay even though was told i shouldnt but nobody seemed to care, probably because of how i couldnt even attempt to train for it due to shoulder injury straight after the bet that lasted all year almost.

Point of order Sir!

It was a £100 bet which you lost - The gent who you had the bet with has been kindly asking how you would like to pay him on the board / thread you made the bet - To date you have not responded.

He most definitely cares.

Yeah its £100 but its from the £50 log press bet. Im not on that forum anymore so i wouldnt know but i didnt get any pm's about it or anything at the time. As i said, personally, i wanted to pay, the £100 for me is no big deal but it was causing a big arguement with the mrs and then family members got involved in the discusion and i basically had to promise not to pay. I dont like this, id honestly prefer to pay but i didnt really even get a chance to participate in the bet due to injury straight after it was made so i dont think its over the top terrible.

Not been able train much, had some difficult personal things going on to go with the time restrictions, did manage to get to the gym yesterday though. Didnt do a massive amount as didnt want fry myself with being pretty untrained at the mo but decided to give fat gripz extreme a go, did some seated rows, wrist curling every time i row'd just to get extra forearm work in, then did some 50kg dumbbell deadlifts with the extremes, solid dumbbell thick handle, almost pinch grip, did 6 reps each hand no chalk. Afterwards did some hang clean and press with 20kg dummbbells using the extremes again for maybe 15 reps and some light pressing, curls and back extensions.

Been mega busy. Tried slightly different poker tournaments that end a bit earlier this week (2-2:30am) but made 3 final tables in 4 days so been blitz. Been working cardio, want to get fit. Can get to the gym if doing these tournaments as they start at 9:30 so managed to do some concept 2 rower workouts with fat gripz, been doing 1 minute all out then 30-45 seconds rest for 3-5 laps. Aslong as my foot holds up will try go for records on this.

Did some grippers the other day, first time in a long time. Did upto two sets of 5 mms on zenith #4 chalkless. Thumb pads been sore as since, not really done anything for grip recently.

Getting a bit more into training again did fat gripz extreme DO to 160kg and fat gripz 180kg yesterday. Both heavy and right hand struggling, right back still knotted up is messing strength up I think. Getting a lot of massage on it.

Last night did zenith #4 x 2 sets of 8 and 5 (right/left) then high rep sets on #3 an #2 followed by fat gripz extreme deadlift 95kg x 22. Pb's on the #4 and extremes I think.

Upto zenith #4 x 30 / 25 clickers. Also did 105kg x 10 fat gripz extreme Hyper deads (slow as hard Hyper extension machine so held for long time) then 115kg x 7 with them sumo stiff leg deads. Feeling pretty strong already. Also my new g/f (former shot put champion for Wales / all around beast) is already upto zenith #2 x 17 wide reps so I think all female grip record holders should be concerned.

Still training hard with new g/f, few weeks off finishing this training phase. Did regular grippers for the first time in a long while on Monday and felt very strong. Will be going for a savage close pb on #3 next week. Becca did her first training session on regular grippers on Monday and was able to triple a hard #1 either hand with credit card and then do a set of 20 on the trainer each hand with credit card. Technique was obviously a bit alien but certainly strength wise can cert #2 either hand already.

Update

Did 170kg double overhand axle for 5 reps no chalk, second week back doing these. Aiming for 180kg x 10 by end of phase. Also doing high pulls with 64kg inch Dumbbell aiming for 10 reps each hand also. Will do Grippers again on Monday and probably some pinch. Not done Grippers for a few weeks as felt like I was getting a bit burnt out. Becca did 90kg x 8 double overhand axle deadlift no chalk. Think she's good for the world record in it.

Ended up doing grip late last night as actually not off work monday. Had to chalk plates as i was doing itband only managed air with the six 5kg's. It will go with the right conditions. After that did 70 total break reps (break the floor then put it back down) alternating each hand with five 5kg, first half two fingers. After that did 15 reps ccs HG400, 18 20mm block set and some deeper. Hopefully get my zenith #4 for next workout, will probably move on to that. Didnt film as had bit of a crisis night with a car crash and a lost cat. Need sort more light for garage yet too.

How much would you reckon is the rgc on the HG400? Does it compare to the HG350s on the market today (in opposed to years ago, they're supposedly heavier).

Do you set the gripper or choke it? Also how's your quest to close the CoC 4 (I'm new to the thread)?

To me HG400 is similar to a #3 in difficulty. I don't know on rgc, just going off what it feels like in the hand to me.

That's mms. At the moment I'm not really trying for it as focusing more on overall body strength (which is going well). Pushed grip a lot earlier in the year and you can't push all the time at the elite level. In the past I've been 1mm from ccs on my medium #4 (original one I bought with grade 8 spring but not coc stamp) and 2mm from ccs on newer #4 a bunch of times (205lb rgc with tough sweep). My best ccs close is a Thor super elite that I'd guess would be 202-203lb rgc but not 100% sure.

Finally getting back into grip training now, just did first session. Did a sets of 30 credit card on zenith #3 and wrist wrench deadlift setup +45kg easy. Becca did trainer credit card for 28 reps each hand and 30kg + setup on wrist wrench. She is looking very strong fresh off winning the Uk's strongest woman contest.
