ROBOHANDS

Recommended Posts

Date and Time: August 7th 1:00 PM

Events:

1. Grippers:

A series of grippers will be present numbered in order of ascending strength. Competitors will have a chance to test the grippers prior to the start of the meet to determine an opening attempt. Competitors will have have four attempts to close the hardest gripper within their ability. Each attempt will last one minute, the competitor will have the entire minute to try and close the gripper until the handles touch. Handles may be set no deeper than parallel and the onlooking competitors will honestly attest as to whether the handles touched. Once an attempt is made at a certain gripper the competitor may not move down to attempt an easier gripper. Two failed attempts at any gripper ends the event for that competitor. Chalk only may be used and standard gripper rules apply, i.e..No touching the spring or attempting arm with the free hand, etc...

2. Rolling Thunder lift:

Each competitor will have four attempts to lift the heaviest weight possible with the Ironmind Rolling Thunder handle. Once a weight is attempted, an attempt may not then be made at a lighter weight. Two failed attempts at any weight ends this event for the competitor. During an attempt the competitor has 30 seconds to make the lift. The lift will be considered complete when the handle is lifted from the floor, the competitors knees are locked, back is erect, shoulders are back, and the competitor has demonstrated control of the implement. Thumbless grip is prohibited. Chalk and a lifting belt may be used. Feet should be no more than one foot wider than shoulder width.

3. Two Hand Plate Pinch:

Each competitor will have four attempts to lift the most weight possible by pinch gripping two 45# plates with the smooth sides facing out and weight attached. Once a weight is attempted, an attempt may not then be made at a lighter weight. Two failed attempts at any weight ends this event for the competitor. During an attempt the competitor has 30 seconds to lift the plates, clearing the ground by at least three inches and holding for at least two seconds. Weight will be added evenly on both sides by a rod traveling through the center hole in the plates. All competitors will use the same 45# plates and the plates must be pinched at the top and remain perpendicular to the ground for the duration of the lift. Chalk and belts only are allowed for this event.

4. Bending:

Various difficulty metal stock will be provided in lengths between 5-7 inches in half inch increments. Any successful bend with a more difficult gauge of steel(at any length) beats a lesser gauge attempt(at any length). The shorter bend within the same gauge also wins. For instance a bend of 1/4" x 7" square stock beats a

1/4" x 5" round stock bend, but a 1/4" x 6 1/2" square stock bend beats both. Each competitor will have four attempts to bend the toughest stock possible. During an attempt the competitor has one minute to bend the chosen steel. Two failed attempts at any piece of steel ends this event for that competitor. Once an attempt is made at a certain piece of steel, an attempt may then not be made at an easier piece. Standard bending rules apply, including the two inch rule.

Each competitor will have four attempts to lift the most weight possible witha 2" vertical bar. Once a weight is attempted, an attempt may then not be made at a lighter weight. Two failed attempts at any weight ends this event for the competitor. During an attempt the competitor has 30 seconds to lift the implement off the ground following the same rules as listed above for the RT handle. A hook grip is prohibited. Chalk and a lifting belt may be used. Feet should be no more than one foot wider than shoulder width.

6. One-Hand Olympic Bar lift:

Each competitor will have four attempts to lift the most weight possible while using a one-hand grip on the center of a standard olympic bar. Once a weight is attempted, an attempt may not then be made at a lighter weight. Two failed attempts at any weight ends this event for the competitor. During an attempt the competitor has one minute to complete the lift. Standard deadlift rules apply. A hook grip is prohibited. Chalk, lifting belts, and sumo stances are allowed.

Scoring:

Strongman type scoring will be used. Points will be awarded for placings. One point for first place, ten points for tenth place, etc... The competitor who finishes with the least points wins. A tie in the individual events will result in the points being split between the two competitors. I.e..a tie for second each competitor gets 2.5 points. In case of a tie in the final standings the winner will be determined by who had more first place finishes in the events.

My backyard in Worcester. It's going to be a fairly laid back competition, if there can be such a thing.

Looks good. I have an open schedule that weekend and am looking forward to it. Practiced pinch gripping today, grippers yesterday. Should be well prepared for supporting lifts, and pretty weak in crushing and bending. . .
