Interesting Contraption

Basically it's a bar where two chains on either side of the bar are hooked onto two loading pins...

www.criticalbench.com/samples/DL-Secret.pdf (it's the last "secret")

I remember reading about a similar, if not identical contraption some time ago, but it apparently went by a different name, because I can't find that article again...

Has anyone heard of or seen something similar?

It's actually a pretty good idea, and a safe way to lift and it eliminates the need for spotters or a powerrack and forces you to perform pretty strict reps (or else the weight would start swinging on you).

I can imagine it would help strongmen aswell, you could use it to train conans circle :rock

Thx dude!

I googled for cable/bar ... and found the page I was looking for. Unfortunately the author, JV Askem, died in 2003... but there is a partial mirror of his homepage here: http://jva.ontariostrongman.ca/

And also saved in the webarchive here: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ol...sonal/cablebar/

There seems to be some differences between askems system and the harvey maxime apparatus (or harvey machine). The cable/bar system does not swing, and is therefore more suited to the olympic lifts.

Btw, he was an avid gripster... and donated all of his copyrighted material to Ironmind.
