mcham Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Anyone tried bending "silver steel"? I went to buy some CRS or HRS from a steel merchant, but they didn't have any in imperial sizes... out of curiosity I bought a 1m length of 1/4" silver steel which they said was a very high tensile steel. Way too expensive... but I had to try it I think it's got a very high carbon content... I cut halfway through it and bent it, and it snapped like chalk. It's very tough.... a 7" length felt a bit harder than an 6" IM blue! I put a good kink in a 6" length but couldn't finish it... next time. They also had 1/4" piano "wire" which they said was even harder Quote Mark Hampton, Sydney Australia Avagoyamug!
JeffPeterson Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Snapping metal worries me. I do alot of double hand and if something snapped it could go right into my palm. Quote
chrisof4 Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 I snapped a high tensile 60D polebarn nail last week. I forgot that they would snap instead of bend, and I was holding it close to my chin. Once it snapped, it jerked up and cut the bottom of my chin open. Be careful with that stuff. Quote Chris Phillips Kansas City, MO 2006 goals: Grade 5 and grade 8 bolt, 600lb power lift series. mcham Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 It bent into a "U" fine at 7" length anyway... but maybe it could snap at a shorter length... I'll be careful. Quote Mark Hampton, Sydney Australia Avagoyamug!
