Sean Dockery Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 It's 3/16", 1/4" and 5/16" steel round stock in various lengths from 7" to 5". Much better to get the 12' sections from your local hardware. For a complete listing do a search for "Poor Man's Bag o' Nails" on the board.....I believe it's in the FAQ section. Quote Patient consistency will always triumph over fickle enthusiasm. tmmicklabs Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Poor Man's Bag of Nails : White Nail = 6" by 3/16" CRS = 120 lbs to bend Green Nail = 5" by 3/16" CRS = 160 lbs to bend Yellow Nail = 7" by 1/4" CRS = 210 lbs to bend Blue Nail = 6" by 1/4" CRS = 260 lbs to bend Red Nail = 7" by 5/16" CRS = 383 lbs to bend Quote
chrisof4 Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 The only thing I will warn you about is that the 1/4" stock in the bag o' nails is way harder than any of the 1/4" I have found at the hardware store. bencrush Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I second the comment from Chris regarding the fact that the Yellow and Blue Nails (IMO) are MUCH harder than the store bought lengths of CRS. Quote
HAMMERHEAD Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I bent a Yellow and a Blue the day and they felt like my Homemade ones. I use HRS usually when I make "nails". -HH Quote
climber511 Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I have HRS I purchased from Goodman Steel in Zanesville, Ohio. It tests out within 5 pounds of my actual IM nails - sometimes easier, sometimes harder - but so far it's all been within a 5# variance. The CRS I purchased actuallly tested out somewhat easier than the HRS. But the CRS Square stock is considerably harder than the HRS square, go figure. In my experience, you really have to test each batch to know what you have.
