Lieder
Yesterday, I just bent some bolts, they have round heads, 3/16" wide and are 4 1/2 long. Does anyone know what nail this compares to?

FbaLLPlaya_53
I've never seen a bolt like the one your talking about is similar to a grade 2?
Lieder
I just asked my dad, I guess its called a carriage bolt, if this helps.
CMunger
Ah, k... I know people have done carriage bolts, but I'm not sure where they fall. Check for posts by Bender and look through hsi web page, i think he has some links to charts of data.
Lieder
Thanks CMunger, hopefully I can get to a hardware store soon and get some more standard bending supplies! Thanks!
young'un
have seen and bent a bunch of bolts like these. i'm guessing they're carriage bolts made by crown bolt company? if they're the ones i'm thinking about, they're harder than any 3/16" round rod i've tried, but despite the short length, easier than probably all the the 6" timber ties i've tried. don't try to jump to other nails/bolts so quickly if you can get more of these. they're an excellent volume bolt to build strength on (if they're not too expensive in your area). good luck! jeff
Lieder
Heh, thanks, I don't believe that I have to worry about running out of these, for some reason my dad has a big ol' bag of them down in our basement, I dont know why, and I don't care, I'll just have to make sure I dont use too many
