Guest
I was in a store today which had an underground part to it. When you were under the first floor, there were rafters. The rafters themselves were pretty wide, but relatively speaking, were spaced close together. I tried to do a pull-up and failed. I tried about 5 min. later, and did one! A full rafter pull-up. All the way up and down. I was pretty pleased with that. I only got a few partials after that. It strained the tendons just below my hand a bit. It kinda screwed up my grip workout tonight, my hands were very weak. But hey, I guess its worth it, right? It was my early present for X-Mas Eve. Guest Luke Reimer
Michael, Congratulations! I would eagerly trade my best grip workout to date for a single rafter pull up. I had never even heard of such a thing before joining this forum and it still strikes me as on of the more amazing feats. Unfortunately for me, with my embarrassing pinch strength, and 230# of bodyweight, I suspect that I'll be able to enjoy rafter chinup only as a spectator. Roark
Michael, What you have done is, in my opinion, a more rare feat than closing a #3. Congrats!
Guest
At the time I was pretty happy, but I didn't think of it as being on par with a #3 close. Makes be even happier knowing its really good. Michael Falkov
blueshadow
Quickgrip, what a fantastic feat,I fear I am in the same boat as Luke,I will not even attempt one! Keep it up!
Roark
Michael, What was/is your bodyweight at the time of the rafter chin? And if you return to that store, please measure the distance between the rafters, and the thickness of the rafter wood you were pinching. Wonder what the security guards reviewing the security tapes are thinking?

Guest
Sorry, I've been away. So here are some answers. I weigh 135 (yes, that makes quite a difference,) I did not go back to the store, but I did some more rafter chins at Radiulis' (Pedro Alberni) house. I managed 3 singles, and one double. 26 1/4" inches between inner edges. 2 1/2" inch wide rafters. BDWT: 135 plus clothes and shoes, hehe. There ya go. When I get to 10 reps, I'll start adding weight. Michael Falkov P.S. Oh yeah, and I finally managed a close of the #2 with my left hand. the swiss
nice!! another rafter puller!! I can do 3 partial reps on 5.5" wide rafters 17" apart, but doing reps while going all the way down is awesome! keep going ! train hard david
Roark
Quick Grip, Remarkable feats! Do not diminish your accomplish- ment by thinking that your lighter bodyweight implies an easier chin-up, because while partially true, you also no doubt have smaller hands etc with which to perform the chin-up(s). Those of us who are heavier can somewhat appreciate what you have done by rigging up 135 on a lat machine via pinch blocks and trying to pull the blocks down to a correct level. I would not be able to do that no matter what shoes I wear!
