Tobias
Just got my bag of nails and just had to try bending some. I was able to turn a green one into a U, although I think they are way to short, couldn't they just have used thicker steel instead?
CMunger
They do use longer lengths of thicker steel, but then they call it a Yellow.
monstrosity
Iam fairly new to bending and gripping, a buddy got me started about the last wk. of jan. I went for an attempt with a CRS 8 1/2x1/4in then, and failed. During the week i've been duing a gripp and pinch cycle then on sat. i would do 1 attempt bend. rest on sun. anyway i had failed w/ the bend the 1st wk. and the follow sat. last wk. , 7 i went for a bend on an 8in CRS from the same 4ft rod. and some how i mannage to execute the bend. i have been doing lots of hand therapy which i believed has helped alot. i plan on going for a 7 1/4 in tommarrow and was wondering were these would fall in w/ thickness and size of HRS and zinc coated/plated. Z-man
Congrats on the 1/4" bend monstrosity!! I've been humbled by 1/4", still working to get my tehnique down after 6 weeks. It's addictive and fun, check out the grip contests section from time to time, Eric runs a grip bash which I'm doing for my 1st time next week. I may not even get a bend, but looking forward to the experience!! Forget the red, I'd be happy with 6" 1/4" bar by the summer The abilities of people on this board is amazing, very motivating. monstrosity
thx, the reason why i ask about the relativity of CRS w/ HRS, and zinc is because i bought a >four foot 1/4in. segment of CRS to play around w/. and see what i could bend which i couldn't at first. Now i have but only a 7 1/4in. piece. < i bought the CR from a Lowes which i plan to bend^ ,won't be able to . was wondering what i should buy, (planning for some progression haven't really set a base for a goal yet), another 1/4 CRS, a 5/16 HRS, or a idunno 1/8zinc will do and yes it is addictive, wanna always bend when i should be resting thats why i come to the gripboard.----keep grippin and rippin----
CMunger
Depending on batch, brand, etc some of that 5/16" hrs can be = or possibly even harder than the Red. I think you'd be better off aiming for the Graded bolts once you are getting beyond the 1/4" stuff. In my opinion the pecking order (1/4") is/should be hrs, plated, then crs. Your mileage may vary. The steps within are hard to say things like "7 inch crs=6 inch hrs" and statements like that, because it's all different. Buy several rods at a time, and cut off one piece at a time until you figure out where you're at with particular steel.
