Has Anybody Had Success Using Hose Clamps?

On your grippers that is. I went to walmart today and bought me some. Putting it on the #2. I have close it now with my left hand hell yes but only once. I have it set to where there is about a thumb width inbetween the handles. I just think this would be good to help me make the #2 a thing of the past. Any comments?

i'm using a hose clamp on my #3 and it works great. a hose clamp is what holds your coolent hoses under the hood of your car. as you get better you can turn the screw and spread those handles farther apart.

Get a size 20 hose clamp. I experimented with this size on a

HeavyGrip 250 and it worked well. You will have to close the gripper

in the vise to put on the clamp. Put a small towel to cover the vice jaws

so as not to damage the handles. You kind of tuck it down between the jaws.

Or you can duct tape the handles or anything else suitable for protection.

Place your gripper between the jaws spring going up. Place the gripper

in the jaws where the jaws will catch it about 1 and 1/2 inches from the

bottom of the gripper. You will have to hold the spring to keep it

straight up as you crank the jaws closed. Close the jaws slowly untill the

handles touch. Now you can place your clamp on and and tightenen it

down around the spring coil. The bottom edge of the clamp should rest

on the top of the handles. The wormscrew of the clamp is best to be place to

a side of the spring coil.

Tighten the clamp down and then slowly release the vice jaws. If the handles

are not where you want them, reclose the gripper in the vice and tighten

the clamp some more. The clamp will stretch a bit and form itself around

the spring coil..

It is important to keep the gripper perpendicular to the vice jaws or else

the gripper will twist on you and pop out of the vice

The size 20 was what I had on hand. I did put it on a HeavyGrip 300. It

held but I think the 20 maybe a little to light for the 300. I did not leave it

on for any length of time though. I was just fooling around to see if the

clamp would work :)
