Viking
Hello, I'm a relatively new grip trainer, and over the last few months I have taken up bending. Recently, after seeing Terry Duty's chart, I decided to find how much weight my bolts and nails took to bend. Here's what I found. Everything is from Home Depot or Do-It Center in southern California except the Ironmind nails. All bends are approx. 45 degrees and were done with a loading pin. 6x1/4" Grade 2 hex bolt ..... 185 lbs. IM Yellow .......................... 235 lbs. IM Blue ............................. 270 lbs. Shiny 60d nail .................... 290 lbs. 8x5/16 HRS (from 3' rod) .... 325 lbs. (approx. 20 degree bend) 7x5/16 Grade 2 hex bolt ...... 350 lbs. 8x1/4 Square Plat steel ....... 370 lbs. 8x3/8 Grade 2 hex bolt ....... 370 lbs. (no bend) This is all I've done so far, more to come later! I hope this helps. Terry, to what degree did the nails on you chart bend when you reported the poundage? Just curious so mine can be consistant, thanks. Viking

bballdad
Yeah that is some good information! I'd love to see some Grade 5 info on some different types of Grade 5 6"x1/4" and 5.5"x 1/4". And Grade 8's at 6". Good info Viking!
bicio
It's some time i want to make a question, if you test the nails/bolts/bar etc.... with a loading pin i assume you place it beetween two supports that make the length shorter than the original, so do you cut longer the nails to provide the less length? or you assume that the weigh is the same for all so it could be assumed like standard? In that case we could put some rule about the supports, their type, the length beetween and the angle of bent Sorry for my english I've converted all the Terry Duty's chart in the european standard of weight and length so if someone is interested i can send it in PDF format. Keep on bending!!!

Viking
Thanks, The way I got the measurements was to take the nail, wrapped in a light towel, and hold it like i would bend it in my hands. I'd put it through the loading pin clip and hold it at about the same distance I'd use to bend. I know it's not too precise, but hey, it helps me get an idea where I'm at and where to go. I thought about the idea of using a kind of rack to put it on, but I'd rather just pick it up to test it. Unless you got a good way of doing it. I'll get some more bolts soon and test those out, especially some grade 5's and 8's. Any ideas are welcome and a standard measurement would be a very good idea.
