Display Your Progress

I'm sure some of you are already doing something similar to this, but I finally got around to building a display board for my bends. I simply took a scrap piece of shelving board and drove some small finish nails into the board in two rows. I then spray painted the whole thing gold, and hung my bent nails and bolts in sequential order of difficulty from the angled finish nails, noting the date of each bend with a permanent marker above the respective bends. I even went so far as to clear coat the bare steel bends to prevent rusting. I screwed my new progress chart to the garage wall, with hopes of filling up the eight remaining empty finish nails with some significant bends. It's nice to be able to stand back and view your progress over the last few months. Give it a try and you'll find it to be a rewarding little project.

I like to put my first bend and my best bend side by side on my desk.

All the bent steel inbetween gets tossed into a bucket.

Two easy ways to see my progress. :D

I've gone to the trouble of scanning the results of each of my bending workouts and then putting them into an Excel spreadsheet (date, description, pic).

I guess it's like having a visual training logbook, and I've found it a really handy guide to making my workouts progressive ;)

I'd be happy to email/PM anyone who'd like a look (1.3meg zipped file). PM me if interested.

I have done a similar thing using a small store bought shadow box. I used hot glue to put in bent nails, bent crescent wrench, torn cards etc...I also made labels for each feat and put size of nail and date bent. I to have some empty spots to fill and it helps to motivate me when I see them every day....Plus it just plain looks cool in my home gym.....Brett

I stumbled across some shadow boxes at the crafts store and was temtped to buy one, but opted for the cheaper route.

I bet your display looks great!

I do two things. All grade 5's are placed on a the top lip of a medium sized shelf, all lined up in a row. It's motivating, and lets me know where i'm at and what I've done.

The second is keeping Coffe cans of bent nails. Right now, I am just finishing my 6th can of nails. It's one think to bend a nail, but it's really an odd feeling to see your 6th full-sized can fill up. Progression by volume, I guess.

I guess there's a third. I keep my goal nail infront of my keyboard. It's usually kinked. Right now, I see a kinked RED infront of me every time I look down. Also quite motivating to see. It taunts me. The bastard...

I keep my best bends hanging on a small bonsai tree

that I had bent up and mounted. On the same tree

is a completely Ued IM Red nail from Big Steve.

I look at what I have done and where I'm at.

And look at Big Steves BIG RED U for motivation !

Next to the tree and bends is a little prayer book

and a Ued Grade 5 and a Ued Grade 8 that Big Steve Ued.

Below these on my bedroom floor is a empty 30lb timbertie

bucket filled to the top with various Ued pieces of steel and

nails.

I have the same thing Eric. Except my bends hang on the wall above my computer.

Like bender, I have the red nail mounted above all the others to make fun of me. I glare at it everytime I walk by.
