IronMind Tugs

Thinking about getting one to train the ring/pinky while on the bike and treadmill.  I’m aware of their “suggestion” pic, but wanted some real world advice from those thatve used them, specifically for ring/pinky training.

In addition, I’m more of a close and hold for time (rinse and repeat for many intervals) kind of guy vs heavy singles.   Was thinking the 3/4 range?  Appreciate the input.

You may have already tried this, but before you spend some money, try turning your weakest gripper upside down and use your ring/little finger to close it and see how it feels.

I have not found that they close far enough to effectively train the end range. @C8Myotome successfully filed his set. For ring/pinky fingers which are the "deal closers" for the end range, I really want something that closes tighter.

They can be useful. I have the 1 and 2 after seeing them be part of a medley (Close an IMTug #1 using a pinch grip (thumb and ring+pinky, Close an IMTug #2 using a pinch grip (thumb and index) but for actually training them I like to use a pony clamp with some bands, and it’s cheap.

I recently completed my full filed imtug set. A bit weird to file as the stopping point is mid to high handle but I do the bottom so they look nice too. They feel fantastic filed and it doesn't take much to change the feel. Wish they came stock like this.

Good idea, but the only gripper I have left is David Hornes Vulcan.  I’ll give it a shot right now.  Thanks for the idea

A bit hard for extended holds, but it’ll give me something to work towards.  Thanks for the idea

Also tried my pony clamp that I added screws to so I’ll take rubber bands (great idea, Cannon).   Worked even better

I have the 2 3 4 and 5 but very rarely use them any more.

I have used them quite a bit in the past though and find them very useful for finger injuries and rehab.

Years ago i fractured my index finger and lost the knuckle due to a broken 2nd metacarpal in my right hand, I also tore the tendons in my index finger.

It took a about a year to fully heal and I couldn't use that finger at all at first so i used the IMTUGs to train my other fingers whilst it healed.

Once my index finger was better and the mobility came back I used the IMTUGs to train my index and middle finger to get the strength back so they are good for rehab work.

Also they are fun for dynamic pinch if you want to pump your thumb up but other than that I don't find they have much carryover to grippers or any other grip lift.

Good to know. I could see these being especially useful for rehab.

I've just been using a light weight gripper upside down for when I want to do any isolated finger or dynamic pinch training.
