What type of technique do you guys use to bend nails?? I grab it with my right hand and my thumb would be facing up then I take my left hand and kinda push it and bend it then I turn my left hand to complete the bend

Amen to that Steve :bow

When I started bending, I couldnt do a yellow. Once I studied Pat's technique, I nailed a blue immediately. It was all up from there.

IMO-if you dont have huge, thick hands (Like Big Steve, Morton, and Shrug) Pat's style is the way to go-

Agreed. I used that style before seeing Pat doing it, it felt naturally strong. before that I had used Tom Black's style (very painful!). practicing the other styles from time to time is a good idea though, IMO. I still cannot comprehend the bending of the reds and cut down reds with the technique the holle brothers use. simply incredible to me.

so try a bit of every technique, and find what's confortable to you.

The style David uses was originated by Pat Povilaitis, aka terminator.

When I first started bending, I held the bar vertical and both my hands faced in opposite directions. I would try to bend the bar like that until it got to the point where I could chest crush it. Now, I only do the double overhand style and feel stronger with it. I couldn't quite get into the groove using Pat's style. It will probably take someone like Pat to personally say "No stupid, hold the nail like THIS!" to have it work for me.

Only luck I have had was with the underhand style of bending. Just easy for me to understand how to do I suppose.

I'm definitely strongest by far using the reverse grip style, but with bends over 6 inches the bends inevitably come out asymmetrical. With a 7 inch bend this translates into a huge loss in leverage. To help combat this problem I've started to initiate the bend with my hands closer together, to get the bend started symmetrically. I still wish I was stronger with the double overhand style, though. That would make it much easier.

Maybe this is why Pat changed styles?

Eric, I didn't "change styles" I basically trained to the point where I no longer need much of if any kink to start a chest crush. I still prefer the style I have always used and continue to use both.
