New To Bending......

When you talk about grades what do you mean? I was at Lowe's for other reasons and ended up in the bolt aisle. I bought a 1/4 inch x 5.5 inch bolt and a 5/16 bolt in the same length. They are both Hex bolts if that makes a bit of difference. I can bend the 1/4 but not the 5/16 but again I have no idea how to tell what grade they are. Any help is appreciated!

Try these two charts - a 307 A is a kind of Grade 1 or 2. The ones I bought with no markings on the head were harder than the 307A's by a bit.

no, if there's no markings (slashes) then its a grade 2.

1/4" 5.5 is quite good especially if this is one of your first attempts at bending. You will probably need to find some in between steel before you can bend the 5/16"...
