Galvanized Vs. Common Bright

Is a common bright 60d the same as the dark almost black looking 60ds? The reason I ask is that I have some of those and some galvanized (from Lowes)and the galvanized feel tougher? I just started bending the other day and then quit to do KTA, and I can't bend either one but the dark one feels like its ready give in the first position(Terminator style) where as the galvanized is a total rock.....Maybe its all in my head. I'm sure you guys know what your talking about as I said I can't bend either one yet, Before I quit to do KTA I was still only bending timber ties.

When you say black, do you mean black shiny or black dull? The 60d pole barn nails (black dull) are definitely not as beefy as the 60d I picked up for giggles @ HH before I even started bending. I still haven't bent that one. Finally bent the 40d of the same variety, but that was a tough little bugger. Definitely harder than any of the 6"x1/4" I've bent from various sources (HH, Home Depot, hrs, zinc plated) I'd say it was almost as hard as the 5.5" x 1/4 I bent. But I think I've heard people compare the 40d to the 60d timber ties, which completely does not compute in my head. The whole concept of variations in batch strength, etc just haunt me whenever I do anything. I think about it too much. That's why I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the challenge bars, because finally I'll be bending (or not :unsure ) a 'known' quantity. I'll still practice on the whatever it might be stock, but the calibrated challenge bars for accurately measuring my level will be huge in my mind.

The tag said 60d common nail as opposed to 60d galvanized if that helps. I bouth the common ones at Home Depot and the galvanized at Lowes. There not gleaming black by any means but they definetly not matte.
