CMunger
Was out and about today, figured I'd pick up some timber ties. While I was picking up the timber ties, I figured I'd pick up some Grade 5 bolts. Nope, not @ Home Depot. They had some Grade 2's, so I picked up a couple of those. I figure what the heck. The more things to bend, the better. Worst case they're easy. I had a Menard's gift card left over from last year yet so I figured I could check there while I was using it. Nope. Picked up some 60d and 80d polebarn nails, again, why not. So I'm on my way home, and figured I'd check the little local hardware store. Sure enough, they have Grade 5 AND Grade 8's. So, as small town/small stores tend to do, the lady asks me what I plan to do with them (6" makes for pretty long narrow looking bolts) I just told her "I doubt you'd believe me if I told you," and she laughed. EricMilfeld
Ace Hardware has a pretty good stock as well. In fact, it's the only place I've run across grade 8s. I need to pick some of those bad boys up, as I've never tried one.
CMunger
They're kinda spendy buggers (relatively speaking). The Grade 5's were 55 cents, and the Grade 8's were $1.10. So whatever they do differently to the 8's costs twice as much as the 5's. But so I figure that I'll have a crack at the Grade 2's tomorrow, and go from there. I just like having them on hand. Clay Edgin
The Orchard Supply in town has the Grade 5's for .37 a piece. Actually, that's what they carry the most of. I've only ever seen them carry a few Grade 2 bolts and zero Grade 8.
bballdad
I actually found a hardware store close to home that carries 6"x1/4" Grade 5's. 55 cents a piece though. Didn't even think to ask if they had Grade 8's. Ended up buying 4 lbs 60ds and 10 Grade 5's.
