Could you tell us a little about your background in lifting?
Started lifting in high school like most other kids
How did you get into grip training?
My friends Wayne and Mike bought a gripper from this martial arts store that we couldn't close so then we looked it up online found the gripboard and it's been history ever since.
You are now a GripBoard Mash Monster, what would you recommend to those aspiring to close this gripper?
Don't try to max out every day, probably get a program and stick to it.
What does your current grip routine look like?
2 to 3 days a week I'll start with a competition event and then work my way into feats.
How has your grip routine changed since you first started training your grip?
At first, it was just trying to close the three almost every single day when I was a dumb 16-year-old kid. Now I actually have a day for grippers and don't just go for Max effort all the time. Also adding different types of grip like thick bar and pinch.
There seems to be a significant variation in the frequency of grip workouts among trainees. Have you experimented with workout frequency and it’s affect on your training?
I feel like you can train grip more often than other muscles so doing it multiple times a week seems to be going pretty well.
What are your favorite grip exercises?
Grippers, inch dumbbells and blobs. It was hubs for a little bit but I kind of fell out of that.
What kind of starting routine would you recommend for a trainee new to grip training?
3 to 5 sets for 3 to 5 reps
Who do you most admire in gripdom?
It would have to be Jedd Johnson. He's been so good for so long he's like the LeBron James of grip sport.
If you were to start over again with your grip training, what would you do differently?
I wouldn't try to close the heaviest gripper I could 5 days a week.
What do you believe is the most difficult grip exercise?
I guess wrist wrench?
What are some of your personal bests in grip exercises?
110 Legacy blob, 170 RGC Gripper close, 271lb on 2x5 NN
What do you believe is the most common mistake made by new grip trainees?
Too heavy too often and not following a routine
What do you consider to be the greatest grip feats of all time?
Hard to say
Do you have any parting advice for readers?
Wow, you made it this far? I got nothing left. You're still reading this? I'm not really that interesting, why are you here?
I mean, Never ever say never ever.
