What’s a decent pinch?

So I am currently doing some pinch on my home made wooden ”thingy”😂

It’s exactly 45mm thick so about (1.77 inches).

What are the standard sizes and what is considered ”elite” or atleast decent?

I can pinch 40kg/ 88lbs fairly easy atm, I want to be able to get atleast 50kg on most thicknesses to be able to pinch 2 55’s so I try to build it up to atleast 110lbs :D

So in conclusion, what’s a good pinch on a 45mm pinch/ 1.77 inch?

I know the Flask is 2.25 inches and it's easy to look up King Kong results (one hand) and find some other records of two hand so that's what I base my how strong is my pinch on. I know Lattice (climbing focussed) has a pinch block that some people have been posting their numbers on but you'd have to look up what size that pinch is.

45 mm is within the normal range, it's not considered thin or thick. So you're basically asking whats a good result on the Euro pinch.

I would say 45 kg / 100 lbs is a good result that will take you pretty far in most comps. Over 50 kg is world class / elite I would say.

Check gripsport.org for results on the Euro pinch.

This list is 2-handed pinch: https://www.gripsport.org/lists.php?list=1&gender=1&event=4&country=all&measurement=

You can expect less than half of the weight with one hand.

Your number is good - depending if you have a goal of a feat of strength of pinching 2 x 25K plates it might be good to measure a pair like you want to try.  45mm sounds thin to me for a pair of full size plates but I don't have plates that size to check.  Small differences in width can make a big difference in what you can lift.

Will definitely check that out, thanks for the feedback💪🏽

Oh alrighty then, not quite sure what happened to my pinch.. before grippers I could barely pinch 30kg, now 40kg goes up with barely any effort😦

So with that said I kind of got motivated to implement pinch once a week.

I’ll see how far I can take it, 50kg would be sick for me atleast😅

I’ll stick to this 45mm as far as I can go then I’ll alternate to my thicker pinch.

Thank you, and yeah that’s something that definitely has struck my mind.

I’ll stick to this pinch as far as I can go for atleast 3 more months and then I’ll change to my thicker pinch implement (still wooden) love the feel of wood😂

Pinch is friction based lifts. The amount of friction you can get is everything.

The humidity even plays a big role. Now when it's cold and dry you maybe get better grip. Getting good at chalking is part of the game. It's a huge part. In that sense pinch is very technical. Very much like grippers are.

Take "anything" made of smooth steel and learn how to "season" it.  Clean all the finger grease etc off with something like lacquer thinner etc - then figure out how to get chalk to stick - there are many "system" but all are similar. It doesn't really have to be something special - something like a couple 10# plates would work fine.

Yep, definitely heard that one before👍🏼I’d say I am pretty good at chalking atm😂

I find on rainy days I have a harder time with chalk sticking to m6 hands.

I did an experiment with a steel block once. I think it was the RB 50 mm block. It has a really slick paint on it originally. I tried it first with no chalk at all. I think I lifted 23 or 25 kg that way. I maybe could have got a little bit more with more attempts but I don't think I would have been able to lift 30 kg that way, not that day. I think my best lift ever this way was 28.5 kg.

Anyways, chalk doesn't stick to that block at all. So I sanded it with some 220 grit paper and chalked it. I got 34 kg that way. Then I sanded all paint off completely down to the bare metal and sanded it with 220 grit again. Chalked it and got 38 kg. All those lifts was done the same day. So it shows how important the friction is for pinch.

I always knew humidity and all that should affect grip altho I never had any issues.

Maybe because I use a wooden implement?

Oh the RB pinch blocks are disgusting in my opinion, I got the super thin one.. can’t even remember the size.

It might have been 6mm, and it was exactly the way you described it!

I managed to get the 6mm pinch up to 26kg that day, after that day I also hurt my middle finger and it took me like almost a year to heal it completely.

Pissed me off so bad so I threw that bs right in the bin😒

Couldn’t get it to stick even if I put my head through the wall..

Wish I knew this sooner, I’d sand it aswell:/

With that said I feel like thin pinch like the 6mm has a lot of room for injuries:/.

Yes it's 6 mm. 26 kg on that one is very good.

I have never tried it myself but I had one at 10 mm made and I just tried it once. It was really hard.
