Rick Walker
I had to go steel shopping today as I am fresh out. I picked up a 5 pound bag of 60 pennies, a 5 pound bag of 40 pennies, 4-3 foot 1/4 inch rods (2 cold rolled, 2 hot rolled), and then looked around for some bolts. They did not have any grade 5s or 8s longer than 3 inches (bend that shit Terminator ). I found some 6 inch grade 2s and bought 6 of them even though they are BUTTER. As I was leaving the bolt isle, something caught my eye. It was a little sign that said "Stainless Grade 2 Bolts-same stength as a grade 5". I bought 6. Today is not bending day so I wont touch them until tomorrow. They are a little bit thicker than the regular grade 2s. I did the McGranahan "ting" test and they had a higher pitched ting then the regular grade 2s as well. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they as tough as a grade 5? For .87 cents I wont be buying a whole bunch of them! Let me know- Rick Walker
Big Steve
Watch stainless steel. I was playing with some 5/16 at 9'' it felt like a 12 spike x 3/8. That stuff is weird.
Rick Walker
I got on one today pre turkey. It wasnt bad-though it was tougher than the regular grade 2 and tougher than 6" of 1/4" CR or HR. The strange part is it didnt V like most bars/nails. It U'd. It also got tougher as the bend went-not easier. Strange stuff-but a good workout none the less. Not as a hard as a grade 5!
