Static Gripping And Farmers Walk

The gym I go to has dumbbells up to 120lbs.I would like to go heavier than that!I have had my eye on the rolling thunder!What do you think would be good to solve my problem without buying a bunch of dumbbells?

Heavy partial deadlifts and timed holds in the rack, or one hand hangs from a chinning bar while holding a dumbbell in your other hand. Have at it!

The simplest solution I could think of would be to just bring a 2 foot long piece of 1" rod to the gym and load plates onto it. Any loadable dumbbell will cost far less than the real thing!
