SHRUG
David, have you ever calibrated a grade 8 bolt 6" x 6.2mm. If you have what were your results.

stephen aish
does anyone know what an "M8" carriage bolt is in terms of grade? these are the only ones i can find so far and they are great to bend! many thanks stephen
gazza
Stephen Is the head marked,if not it is just mild steel a grade 2 or equivalent, mine have jy and 3 hash marks on the head, theses are high tensile 170.000 psi the English equivalent to a grade 5 bolt. What place company do you get your M8 bolts from as i would like to get some of these for future to compare against mine.
stephen aish
Gazza, they are plain and i guess around 230lb to bend-i get 3 for £1.19 odd in a local "sell everything" shop. they are 2/3 threaded and 7mm x 6 inch. i will shop around soon and try to locate some graded carriage bolts to see where my bending is in relation to them. any tips on finding them would be much appreciated! thanks in advance stephen
gazza
Stephen Try and get the same bolts with thread just on the end, these will be a little harder for you,try B+Q<WICKS<HOMEBASE<WILKOS etc. If you want the M8x150mms high tensile bolts(JH or JY UK equivalent to the US grade 5 bolt 170,000psi then you will have to go to a specialist bolt supplier like WEBSTERS. Send me your adress by pm and i will send you a few(M8x150mms high tensile bolts) in the post.
