Bill Piche
This just in from PDA: Randomly placing additional holes in the Choker is a very big mistake. You cannot just jump in and make changes without due consideration for materials, etc. They are not aware of the TSG forces generated and the material stress elements. These were taken into consideration in the original design and the materials selected to deal with the extreme scenario as well as address cost effectiveness. Additional holes should NOT be made in the CC plate unless they are further toward the outside perimeter and a specific number of hole diameters from all edges and all other penetrations. The materials properties will not support additional holes to accommodate the existing PAX. In other words, using the same PAX = drilling holes in the CC is not doable. If you have drilled holes already, you have set the stage to scrap it out after it starts to collapse. It will if you are using stiff grippers. The PAXB was put on site this weekend because a smart user (Ed Festa, NY) knew to call and ask how to best modify the CC. The PAX is tool steel. Blanks can be readily drilled as needed for specific fit.
OldGuy
I did not drill any extra holes all though it did occur to me. They would have been too close to each other. Getting additional plates is far better.
