Feats With Hands

Today I had the pleasure of competing with some of the

great grip people from this board at Brian Carlton's

"Feats with Hands". I placed 4th in this competition,

Dave Ostlund placed 1st, Jeff Peterson placed 2nd

Jeff Bissonnette placed 3rd, and Jason Adamski

placed 5th. This contest was an overall awesome sucess

there was 11 competitors, 2 of which were women who

made some very good lifts. Pictures and video clips

to come soon.

Some good lifts were, Jason Adamski's 45lbs Hub lift, and did not

even need his 3rd attempt. Jeff Bissonnette's 400lbs Appollons Axle

deadlift with no hook grip and double overhand grip. 3 people (Matt

Makousky, Jeff Peterson, and Dave Ostlund got the 45lbs Blob to

a full deadlock position. Jeff Peterson did a #3 COC dime hold

for approx. 13 seconds.

Does anyone else in South Florida even train grip!

Don't feel like you're all alone in your aloneness. I seem to be going it solo in north Texas for the time being, until Strongmitts moves here in December.

Yes, congrats to all who competed. Can't wait for the photos!

Eric, can't wait 'til I get over there! We are gonna hit it hard! It's great to know I will be able to do some training with a like minded individual. Chris Caffery

The IM stacker was included. It was a really fun contest. It's too bad there are not more of them. Matt can I buy a copy of the tape from you?

Yes Joe, I went ahead with the IM Stacker. There was never any doubt that I'd use it, I was just concerned about the variations of how the lift can be performed. It turned out that everyone was basically training it the same way so I had no hard decisions to make. ::whew!:: Still, it was by far the most difficult event to judge. It was a little weird, but very interesting, to be on the 'other side' of the competition. No one yelled at me so I'm hoping that that means everyone thought I was a fair judge.

The contest was great fun, in my opinion it was a success, and I've already begun planning for next year's contest.

The full placings are as follows:

1) David Ostlund- 13 pts.

2) Jeff Peterson- 14 pts.

3) Jeff Bissonnette- 16 pts.

4) Matt Makousky- 16 pts.

5) Jason Adamski- 18 pts.

6) Aaron Boesch- 23 pts.

7) Joe Peterson- 33 pts.

8) Jeff Ford- 38 pts.

9) Daniel Peterson- 44 pts.

10) Nadia Johnson- 50 pts.

11) Maggie Godfrey- 52 pts.

There was a tie for 3rd place, with Jeff Bissonnette edging out Matt Makousky because Jeff had won an event and Matt did not.

Jeff Peterson won the COC dime-hold event (#3 for 13.81 seconds), Jeff Bissonnette the Apollon's Axle DL (400 lbs.), David Ostlund The Stacker (36.25 lbs.), Jason Adamski the IM Hub-style pinch (45 lbs.), and David Ostlund the blob DL (45 lbs.) Since three people pulled up the 45 blob the event was given to David because he got it on his 2nd attempt while Jeff P. and Matt got it on their 3rd attempt. Each event winner received a one year subscription to M.I.L.O. or a $40 gift certificate from IronMind. David Ostlund, being the overall winner, also received a IM Go-Really-Grip machine, a Fat Bastard 2" wrist roller, one of each of the four grip books from Super Strength Books, and a gripper rack of his choosing.

I want to thank all of the sponsors, IronMind (who was also kind enough to post the results literally 15 minutes after the contest ended! Far faster than I could have gotten the results released on my own.), Fat Bastard Barbell Co., Super Strength Books, Uptown Tattoo, and S&H Woodworking.

Thanks to all the competitors and the few spectators who came for participating. I hope it was worth everyone's time. Next year I hope to be competing as well!

Oh yeah... and Joe, you'll be very pleased to know that there happened to be a clock on the wall directly behind the competitors and a large percentage of the pictures include the clock in them. You'll know the time of the lift, right down to the second.
