John Beatty
Got another Idea the other day - let me know what you guys think. I'll soon be offering an eight lb iron ball (a shotput), tapped & threaded, fitted with an eyebolt for loading. Like the softball from "Mastery of Hand Strength", but IRON. I may do bigger shots, too, just have to find them. New ones would be cost prohibitive. Sound like fun? FAT BASTARD BARBELL CO
Roark
Sounds like your innovation is shot! Good idea! Is the 8 pounder the size of a baseball/softball?
gazza
John Great minds think alike i have one of these already but it is 16lbs shot.Neadless to say the hand cannot hold on for very long. The problem is that as they get heavier the shot gets bigger so more of a challenge to the smaller handed,if you were too say do 3-4 different diameters, you would have all the bases covered. austinslater
John-Great idea! Also have you thought of a loadable blob? one that is the same size as a 50lb. blob but loadable. Keep up the good work. Austin
terryduty
Why go to the trouble to tap and thread your iron ball? Just use a powerful magnet that already has a threaded eyebolt afixed to it (see link below). Plus you'll have the additional benefits of being able to use the magnet as a pinch block, and juggle your intact iron ball, as well! http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=36905
AP
if the durn thing can hold 250lbs isn't that a saftey hazzard? what happens if you walk by a steel girder and are not ready for a 250lb russian twist ? And one would get awfully tired doing one finger deadlifts (of the eye bolt) everytime they dropped this thing on the train... Doesn;t make much sense to me.... John Beatty
The only problem with the magnet would be the added cost. Between the shot & magnet, materials cost alone would be around $35 before shipping fees (that I pay to get the stuff to me- figure add at least $7-8). That of course leaves no profit for me (a small but important part). I can probably do the tapped version for about $30 or less retail. John Beatty
As to the loadable blob - I've got to get one for the dimensions to see if I can make something similar. Certainly would like to, we'll see.
qball
good idea on the magnet, if cost wasnt a issiue the only trouble is a good earth magnet is very costly and all magnest loose there juice after a while but the drilling and tapping only take a matter of 5-6 min if you have the right equipment and the eye bolt will last as long as the shot put it self. John Beatty
I'm going to have 8 & 12 lb shots, would anyone want a loadable 16lb? Figure this is the place to ask- FAT BASTARD BARBELL CO
