DAVE101
First popularized by Mike Jenkins and later Dmitry Klokov with a 25kg disc, plate flips have been an immediately recognizable feat of grip strength - everyone knows how hard those are to move around. It was even posted here before when it was more popular. A 45 lb plate isn't too difficult to master for the average grip trainee, especially crumb rubber plates which tend to be grippier than virgin rubber plates. It's been a goal of mine to flip and catch the 55s for a few years, but a couple finger injuries has held back my dynamic training. Has anyone else flipped and caught 55s since Klokov? Can anyone here do it?

Climber028
Might be of interest to super strong people, there are a few companies that make 50kg bumpers.

Climber028
If you say so, just sounds scary to me haha. Tho I wouldn't mind a set of 100lb steel plates for rim holds.

Nobody is going to flip those though.... outside of a silverback gorilla.

Oh yeah! They were used in the olympics for a few years before being phased out. They're still somewhat common in Russia and parts of Europe. Here's Russian weightlifter Mikhail Koklyaev carrying it around. And another Ruski doing a timed hold in each hand. Though Eleiko makes them, I don't think I've ever seen a 50k bumper in this hemisphere. Probably not being flipped, but some impressive grip feats can be done none-the-less. Like Timo (I think that's his name) doing a fingers-on-the-flat pinch lift on a 50kg powerlifting disc.
DAVE101
@Joseph Sullivan: If you don't mind me asking, where was your pinch strength at the time, and how long / how many attempts did it take? Any words of wisdom for someone wanting to accomplish this? Edited December 3, 2017 by DAVE101

Any words of wisdom for someone wanting to accomplish this? I actually rarely pinch at all. I hate it. I was able to flip the plate with no training of it. I just picked up a half 100 blob after touching it a few times. I did the inch after 3 tries. Most of my strength I’ve had with no specific grip training. I’ve been blessed. I don’t know how helpful my advice would be onnhow to get to a certain feat except attack it like an animal and don’t ever give up until you smashed it! Kaiden
I flipped a 25kg rubber bumper plate today. I haven’t really done any specific grip training because I’m only 18 years old. I have decently large hands though.
