Pda 280s

I have skimmed a few posts intermixed between the "Equipment"

and "Workout" forums and have seen a trend towards satisfactory

rateings of PDAs 280 gripper by those who have received them this

week.

I am mostly in agreement with the wily vets on the board who

repeatedly warn of gripper variances and to expect the unexpected.

However, for some strange reason I felt this PDA280 is a strong

darkhorse to prove this is a good choice to be made for a "tweener"

gripper. I said as much to bballdad earlier this week. Yes, I might be

flirting with disaster telling someone to go for the 280 but I think it to

be a good choice.

Well its on it way regardless! NRW said his .280 was about a 2.7.

Thats what I'm hoping for. :whistel

Mines somewhere in that general vicinity as well. More than 2.5 less than 2.8 atleast compared to my #2 and #3 which I have no clue how hard or easy they actually are.

.280 came in today. Tougher than my Grandmaster. Haven't got #3's

in yet so I don't know how they will compare to it. I got it down to about a 1/4" this evening. Very nice gripper. Just the strength that I was looking for. Thanks zcor and others! :rock

bballdad,

With your posted evaluation and it being consistant with what the

others have posted, the PDA 280 should be considered a "Tweener"

for the #2 and #3.

Also, paired with Tetting`s SuperMaster, that makes 2 tweener grippers

one can choose from. I rate the SuperMaster easier than the PDA280 by a fraction. ( based on my grippers)

Thanks for the feedback

I received in the mail today an SOS 280 ip gripper. I cannot tell it as far as difficulty in closing it goes, from either of my 2 Ironmind #3.s. I would say that Ironmind grippers look nicer, but that is not important.

I have a Lemley gripper that I have taken apart and moved the handles up as far as possible without them touching the spring. This to me is a gripper between a #2 and a #3.

Ok OldGuy, This PDA 280 that has been talked about is actually

a .280 springwire diameter and not the ip. What the ip is; is irrelevent

Ironmind`s #3s uses a springwire of .281. (Even though, I have a couple of 3s that have springwire diameters that vary from the .281.)

I hypothezised for my self, that one could group their grippers by springwire thickness and try to build progression by springwire diameter.

I also think that anyone who can slam a #3 will not need to build a progression series of grippers and therefore will have a mute point

on comparing springwire diameters to progress to the #3 anyway

For me to say 280 ip was a mistake. I do realize that .280 refers to the thickness of the spring. Currently having been out of things and not having done any grip training for several weeks, I cannot close a #3. At this time the 280 SOS and my 2 #3.s feel the same, and I can close all 3 grippers to an 1/8'' from being shut. I purchased a PDA gripper just for the sake of owning one.

I was not gettin` on your case or anything John :) I have seen that you have had your "Gone Fishin` sign out as of late. I have 3 of these 280s

and have put the handles together, But using the same or trying to use more horsepower with the #3, I still come up a little short.

I guess I have convinced myself that a few 1000ths in springwire makes a difference. Plus maybe giving the new guys something to think

about when going from a #2 to the #3, that if you can get a couple of

grippers with inbetween spring wire it will give a mental boost.

that is why I like the Lemley gripper. It comes with loose handles that are set low on the spring. It is not difficult to modify and make progressively harder. The spring being wound the other way does not bother me.

My PDA280 came last week and it fits right in between the #2 and #3. My Super Master is a little bit harder.

Just recieved the PDA 280, and it is harder than my SM. I'll give a good review when my hands are fresh and can give it a good squeeze.
