Still waiting on my order from FBBC.. He makes it clear he can't ship fast so I get it.

I ordered some 1/4 drill rod, should be here tomorrow.

When wrapping steel for bends, on say a 6" piece... What is the proper wrap placement? I normally go about halfway to 2/3rds of the wrap. I try not to grab onto what overhangs because that seems like it would help with leverage.

I read so many things, I get myself confused.

There's no right or wrong on how to place the wraps unless there some rules you need to follow for competetive bends.

Just place the wraps where you feel most comfortable.

Personally when bending reverse 6" bars I place the pads in the middle of the bar. That makes the bend harder, however IMO it makes it more legit. There's no question of how hard the bend was in that case, you can compare your bends to other who did the same, providing you use the same rated bars and the same type of wraps.

Thanks... That's great to know, I'll try that on Thursday. Whatever I bend, I want to work up to the hardest ways to doing them.

I don't think there is a "proper" placement. Depend on your goals and what feels good.

In single corduras or suedes for DU, I go with ~2". In thicker leathers or doubles for DU, it's about 4cm or ~1.6" (I always mark the bars). I don't change this based on the length of the bar, it's always the same.

If you really want to reduce the leverage, try it with wraps touching. I tried it before in single suedes for both DU and reverse and it really makes a difference. You can see this in David Horne's most recent reverse bend video.

I wrap 45mm both in singles and doubles. It can be efficient wrapping more shallow in doubles but will make sweep harder. DO that is.

DU I wrap the same.

Reverse differs a bit, i tend to wrap the further away part deeper. Not sure how much deeper though somewhere around 60mm

Do you mean his video from yesterday?  As long as I'm up to bending Thursday i'm going to try that. I've probably done it before, I'm really starting to realize how important wrapping is. You need consistency  to make consistent progress.

That man is a machine.  60 years old, no signs of slowing down. My uncle was telling me the older day "no matter how much you work out your still gonna be crippled when your older". Maybe if you spend your 20s-40s dropping acid and doing peyote like him.

I should show him videos of David Horne or some other members here.

Yes that lift-bend combo 😄.

Yea he is a beast!👍

Btw, wrapping tutorial from Jan, it might help (even if you go with the pads touching style in the end):

@matek @Donc101 @Fist of Fury @jculpepper  Here is my first time bending 1/4x7" O1 drill rod.  Just looking for feedback on how to improve. I hate recording myself but its the only way to get improve.

Looking good dude! One thing I notice is that your body is really "sideways" if that makes sense, not the best position to engage your shoulder. It's hard to explain, but check out the top reverse bends on the Horrido list , I think you will understand what I mean. Just an idea!

Also, your face stays too zen 😐. When I'm doing higher levels on the WD2, my face is so ugly I'm afraid to record it because the camera lens would break.

Yeah brother!! Looking good! Yeah I hated video taping myself in the beginning too but it's great when you can go back and see your technique change over the years and it's great to share with friends to help you on your quest.

The only suggestion is I would 2nd matek's suggestion. You really have to explode into that steel. It's is a mind game because you have yo over come the fear of getting hurt. I personally get very emotional when I bend my top steel because I use that as fuel to hit that bar with everything I got. You just need to figure out what works for you.

A second tip search this forum and YouTube for videos bending in Reverse. Soak up everything you can to try and pick up pointers. I even bought some nail bending programs to help my bending.

Keep up the good work

Nice job. You may want to keep your arms locked in tighter and closer to your sides. Really try to use all of your upper body power translated through your wrists and hands.

thanks, that seems to be the general consensus.

Going to cut a couple more 7" and a couple 6 3/4" for next week. Don't want to get over confident but I think I'll crush a 7" next week.. A lot of it is mental.

edit You guys are spot on because my left shoulder is sore today.

Ironmind wants a little over $30 to ship 2 wraps, chalk and the stacker..

I don't mind paying to play, I own a company and i'm all for people making money but thats outrageous, to put things in perspective.... I just shipped a  27lbs guitar amp for $40.. I'm sure they get a deal on shipping....    I think David Hornes shipping prices are cheaper than that from England...

I need some wraps I can cut down for progressions... Any other recommendations? If not I'll buy from IM...

DHWOG wraps are suede leathers. Just buy a big piece of suede in a DIY shop or Amazon, and cut it to 4"x10-12" pieces (or smaller). Or you can buy it from ECGB @devinhoo here, already cut to size.

Yes their shipping rates are very bad indeed.

I bought 40 lb blob from the US once I got it shipped to Sweden for like 40$ I think.

Bought grippers from another seller in the US several times as well, shipping only 8$ for one gripper. You can get better shipping rates if you want. I sellers should invest more time in trying to find better shipping rates. That's almost always a deal breaker.

Isn't IM on Amazon. If you have prime it might be cheaper there too. Not sure if they mark their stuff up there though.

I got quoted from 66lbs inch replica here to the States... Thats a fair price. But didn't end up buying.

@matek @jculpepper thanks.. I might just order some suede so I can cut to desired lengths.  Its $40 on Amazon for a pair of ironmind wraps.

Like I said, I don't begrudge anyone for making a living. But Ironmind  needs to get with the program, they need sharpen their pencils.

What is your goal with the ironmind wraps? If its to certify on red nail then dont bother. With the new rules ironmind has put out its near impossible for anyone to cert now unless you specialise in strict DU

No goals other than personal and maybe the Man killer steel snapping challenge by David Horne.

Just use leathers. Cordura is very bad wraps. They work pretty good on rebars though since it's easier to get a good grip on those bars but on normal steel bars they are very slippery and not good to bend in. If you don't have a specific goal that requires cordura there really no point using them. They're also more aggressive to the skin.

Cannon PowerWorks sells IMPs for pretty cheap: $6 for a pair of wraps plus $6 for shipping.

That's where I bought my first wraps for bending. I didn't even have any steel to bend but Matt had a really good price on the pads!

Whats the deal with 10" x 3/8" spikes from HD? I bought two.. Didn't really try to bend it braced and don't think I can yet, but I think it might make for a good isometrics...  Do people use these for braced bending ever?
