Blackdog Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Does keeping your gripper choked take away from the rating poundage over time? EJ Livesey Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Yes it does. Chez has my old chocked 3.5 that rated in the mid 160s I believe. You can't delete threads. And comments is about 30mins to edit. Edited September 29, 2015 by EJ Livesey 1 Quote Junior steel bender in training The only limits are the ones YOU set. Jose Cabrera Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 This is interesting, i didnt think that happens. I've never done any choked gripper work btw. Quote

Please direct me Thanks I've kept grippers choked for long periods of time and never noticed that they got any weaker once the choker was removed. 1 Quote Todd Coenen

Dreadnought Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Maybe it depends on the spring quality brand....I have a hg300 that was choked for a long time (years) and it WAS hard.....I noticed it was getting easier and easier....I thought it was because I was getting stronger....I just had it rated by Matt and it's at 118....I know it lost strength cause I was closing a rated 122 coc 2.5 years ago and couldn't close the hg300 at that time...now it's easier than the 2.5 and the rating proves it Dave 1 Quote
Blackdog Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Thank you for the answers. Another question: What are the pros and cons of using a big washer vs using a clamp for chocking a gripper? jvance Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Agree with Dave here. Had a HG300 and a COC 3 both rate 149 by Chris Rice. The HG has always felt a bit easier bc of the spread but, years later, it definitely feels like a low-mid 140s gripper while the 3 remains feeling like it always had. climber511 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Do chokers make grippers easier if left choked over time. Yes and no. I kept most of my grippers choked when I was using them that way for Gripmas competition. Upon re rating them - some had no change and some did - most did not change at all. I didn't have any HG but did have a few of all other brands. A spring "should not" lose strength but some did. Anthony C. Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Yes it does. Chez has my old chocked 3.5 that rated in the mid 160s I believe. You can't delete threads. And comments is about 30mins to edit. I can vouch for this as I've seen the gripper. It rates at 167 and if I'm not mistaken, is the lightest 3.5 Matt has ever rated. I feel like choking my coc 4, throwing it in a drawer for 10 years and seeing what happens. 1 Quote

I sure do like testing things. 2 Quote My YouTube channel - grip, and shop projects.
