Fist of Fury
Good job, choker closes makes you feel good, they make you feel stronger Just practice on your setting strength now and you'll soon close it without a clamp.

Grind
Very strong close indeed. I have never choked before. How much more can anyone choke vs. mms? Is there much difference between these type of closes?

Is there much difference between these type of closes? It's definitely a very induvidual thing I think. I've been able to close a 140 lbs + gripper (don't know the exact rating) with a 10 mm choke, so around 10-15 lbs more than I can with a normal block set 35-40 mm. It also depends on how much you choke it of course, if you have it down to 5 mm the numbers will increase obviously.

A mms is about the same as this close I think. How much power does one loose on setting the gripper compared to using a choked gripper? Is the difference about 5lb or maybe 10lb or maybe more? I can only speak for myself but I have not been able to close that gripper (140+) with a wider choke than 10 mm. You lose a lot of grip, you simply get a better grip around a smaller object, so the gripper sets much better in the hand, giving you a huge advantage. No one has yet closed a #4 with CCS, but there's plenty of people who have with MMS and choked to let's say 5 mm I bet there is even more people. Fist of Fury
It also depends on how you train. If you train a lot on choker closes you will get good at that but if you neglect wider sets you will not develop the strength for that so the gap will be larger. So it all depends on how you train I would say.
Evan Raftopoulos
Good job Jared! Very strong close indeed. I have never choked before. How much more can anyone choke vs. mms? Is there much difference between these type of closes? there are a few benefits of doing choker work. One that should not be overlooked is the psychological benefit of closing bigger grippers. If you close a choked gripper from ~20mm then it means that you have the capacity to close it MMS with consistent training. Also, it's another way to track your progress with crushing grip. You'll close a choked gripper before you close it MMS and you get the benefit of getting used to the pressure of the gripper and you can do many attempts without stressing your hand with setting the gripper. You can even do choker work with a goal MMS gripper without any warmup and have little risk of injury (jmo). This is added training and not to replace setting grippers/MMS training. How much more can anyone choke vs mms max attempt I will hazard a guess 10 lb on average but if you use the opposite hand to stabilize the gripper from the top you can gain 5 even 10 additional pounds. If you choke it to 10 mm instead of 20, that's also another 10lb. Just my estimations based on my max choked attempts.

So for myself when I'm working near my max if I have something choked down to say 10mm and work on the crush and slowly open in up over a few month from 10mm-30mm I find that I can easily hit a block set or MMS then. I never thought about how much additional closing power it gives you. Also mind you this is something I only down when I'm working around what feels like 95% + of my max.
