Rear Sledge Lever To Pick Axe Numbers

Jeff Parker

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how to apply torque formulas to get a ball park number as far as how a rear sledge lift with a 12lb hammer would correlate to actual lbs on David Hornes pick axe lift?

I have done pinkie at 20" on a 12lb sledge

Multiply poundage with length of lever and then divide with lever of pickaxe. Like this.

12lbs x 20 inches / 28 inches = 8,57lbs

This gives you rough estimation. More experienced guys have said that pickaxe feels harder because shaft is thicker than typical sledgehammer.
