Amy
Just wanted to share. I'm very excited about this and am loving how much the kids are getting into grip. I will be promoting Idaho's Strongest Athlete & Idaho Strongman Challenge on May 16th at our place, Competitive Edge Athletic Performance Center in Meridian, ID. The ID Strongest Athlete is for high schoolers, classes are varsity, JV and Freshman. Competitors must compete in the highest level of athletics played for the 2014-2015 school year in any sport. Idaho Strongman Challenge is open to LW/HW men and open women. Potentially novice class depending on entries/interest. It's the typical strongman events with the exception of Silver Bullet for one of the events. This has been very fun to start determining where HS athletes are coming in on this and setting appropriate grippers for the attempts. This portion of the competition is geared towards athletes, not necessarily strength athletes so the numbers look a little different than the typical strongman competition. Right now this event is broken down as: HS Varsity - Captains of Crush 1.5 with hanging disc JV - Captains of Crush Trainer with hanging disc Freshman - Captains of Crush .5 with hanging disc HS Female - Captains of Crush Sport with hanging disc Men's HW - Captains of Crush 3 with hanging disc Men's LW - Captains of Crush 3 with hanging disc Female Open - Captains of Crush 1.5 with hanging disc *have the option to go with the 2 and would automatically beat any time on lower gripper* Watching the kids and fellow athletes branch out a little bit and try some grip events has been fun. We are donating a portion of entries back to each athlete's booster club or HS team of their chosen sport. I would like to increase that amount to support the local schools and am working hard to make it happen. *keeping my fingers crossed* Personally, I would like to see things mixed up from time to time in strongman and integrate a grip event every harvest moon. But I am biased. Looking at branching out to a grip competition later this summer. Big thanks to Randall for helping make this event possible. Frank Pizzo
Looks awesome! Getting the High school kids involved in some friendly strength athletics is a great idea. I bet the turnout will be very solid, especially with some donation money for their booster club or team in the mix. Also, spreading grips sport and exposing it to some new eyes, and hands, is always a good idea. Good luck to everyone, and great job on the event, should be a success.
