Tom Scibelli
Does the pipe used in the 2HP device have to be a certain length for it to be used in contests. I was looking at ordering a solid 36'' pipe, but I thought I remember reading that it needed to be 30''?
EricMilfeld
There's no length restrictions. A bar or pipe around 36" is ideal. No advantage is gained with longer bars.
Electron
I'm on a mobile device so can't give you any sources. I just measured mine, and the rod was 36". This implement has probably been used in 5 official contests. Personally, I'd stay away from the solid steel rod. This is especially if you're planning to run a contest. When you have people pulling on the device for the first time, the lighter the empty implement is, the better. If women or lighter men start getting involved more in the sport, this would help a ton. And because the hollow pipe would weigh only 9lbs @36", versus 33lbs@36", I believe this would be the best way to go. Not too mention btw, the outside collars that most people use on the Euro may not fit a true 2" rod.
EricMilfeld
The Mighty Electron makes some good points. Another advantage to the lighter pipe is one hand lifts.
rico300zx
I would go solid hot rolled and 2" x 36", my reasons are the star lock inner collars hold better and spring collars work on the outside perfectly, no more pony clamps. You will eventually bend the hollow pipe like I did which in the end will cost u more money to replace. My weight came out to 75lbs which is a good starting point for lighter classes. You can see pics in my gallery, my 2hp has gone over 2 major overhauls since I made it.

acorn
I run a 50mm x 30" long thick wall tube on my comp setup. It was just fine loaded up to near 260# at that length with regular plates before I got the thin Eleiko's. The 50mm x 30" weighs right at 3.75Kg or 8.2#. - Aaron
