211
What is the proper hand position for a sledge deadlift? I have seen it done two ways. The first is a grip like if you were holding a claw hammer ready to hit a nail (knuckles down), the second involves wrapping the thumb under as if you were throttling up a motorcycle (knuckles forward). I checked the NAGS rules and it doesnt mention whats allowed and it seems the second grip is against the spirit of the lift. What do you guys think

What do you guys think Between Thankgripping and Gripmas - I have seen most of the big numbers that have been done. All were done with the conventional grip. Stephen Ruby
I Tilt the wrist down so you get more leverage from the thumb neutral grip isn't as strong in my opinion. So grab it neutrla then flex the brachioradialis. I did 24 quite easily at my last contest as my second warm up but missed around 27 a bunch of times.-coin coming off and hand slips- One thing is you need right amount of stick to the handle, if your hands have too little or too much moisture it makes the lift way harder then it should be.Try both though see what you prefer. The diameter of the handle and environment conditions do matter so keep that in mind also that you might do more then you think given right conditions. Also I think speed helps also if you can do the lift quicker I think its stronger but its more risky also. I tend to do it really slow and this causes fatigue and to slip easier. One thing with neutral is you are squeezing harder though I can't squeeze as hard despite leverage advantage hence I would slip at the top more also. Prons and cons depending on what you like.
