OldGuy
I wish I was a member of the 50 lb blob club, but it just isn't so. I am in the minor league of 40 lb blob lifters. Oddly I find it easier to lift it across the face rather than the width. There must be sizes of grip width in which people are stronger than in others. mobsterone
David Horne wrote something on this an age ago in his grip course and so you are right. He said that for plate pinches the distance of the gap at the base of the thumb measured to the base of the index finger (a little under 2.5" in my case) is the best guesstimate of the width of plates you'd be good on. A suppersition would then argue that your hands, on a 40 lb blob, might have the best leverage advantage at the width of the face. that is to say that at that width you can best apply the greatest pressure. This also supports Joe's 'fairbar' arguement. ie: differing widths for wider/narrower hands on pinch/blob/thick bar etc.
