OldGuy
For those of you who are using Pony clamps to train thumbs, I have a tip. To increase the resistance, simply wrap rubber bands tightly around the jaws.

Guest RobbyTooSlobby
What exactly are "pony clamps?" And how would you use them to strengthen your thumbs?
Guest RobbyTooSlobby
Ok I found pony clamps at Homedepot.com. So I'd guess you are just pinching it with your thumb. Now I think I understand how this exercise works! This is great for me since I got into gripping to rehab torn ligaments in my thumb! pony clamp Edited April 22, 2003 by RobbyTooSlobby
Incindium
I've been using the little clamps for the small non-olympic sized bars for thumb/pinching training.
don of tha new grip
I've been using the little clamps for the small non-olympic sized bars for thumb/pinching training. I got those and my little boy always asks me to see his "grippers" when i'm workin with my grippers
tomricci
While I was at Home Depot buying some clamps I also purchased some Non-Skid tape and cut small sections of this and attached them to the side where you grip the clamp. I took the little rubber caps off and cleaned the metal real well before adding the tape. It always felt like the caps would slide off and send the clamp shooting acoss the room when squeezing them. This also roughs up the skin on your thumb and forefinger helping your grip when crushing a gripper.
