Bill Piche
I got a new #4. Why? Why not. Guess what. It's different than any 4 I have now. It's double stamped AND they started putting the bigger bevel on the bottom of the handles again. So, it's unique in my collection. The bottom of the spring is even with the handles! I don't even have to squeeze it to know it's a tough 4. Bricklike!
Roark
Bill, is it harder than the #4 of mine that you and Heath tried?
Bill Piche
Not sure yet. But, let me tell you, it's similar in looks. If you remember, yours is double stamped too! So, same bevels and same double stamps. The handles are of course lighter in the new one.
Bill Piche
Just compared them. Except for the handle material...they look to be indentical! Same deep handle mounting where the bottom of the spring is even with the top of the handles. Same old time bevel, etc.
don of tha new grip
Here's a good question- why is double stamped a big deal? all my grippers are like that. Also what's a bevel?
Bill Piche
Here's a good question- why is double stamped a big deal? all my grippers are like that. Also what's a bevel? Pre 2000 or so, they were normally single stamped. Look at your gripper handles on the end for the bevel.
Rick Walker
On my double stamped #4, the spring is a good bit lower than the handles. It IS a brick. On another note-my BBM came. I have to say I am disappointed-it is easier than both of my #2s. I handed it to Derek and he shut it with ease then asked-"What is this, a #1?" Damn. Dan Cenidoza
I got a new #3 myself, just arrived yesterday. I closed it. That's 2 out of 3 #3's that I have closed. I actually went to my friends house who has my original #3 [i borrowed his to certify] and tried to shut it but couldn't I'm still about 1/8" away... the same distance I was when I first tried closing it out of the box. Rick Browne
I received a letter from Tetting yesterday and the info he presented stated the spring wire inch diameters will be moved up on his grippers. 2 grippers of special note will be the Super-Master and the Special-Elite (new models) Using the inch diameters he presented, the SuperMaster will be about .008th inch narrower than Ironmind's #3. The Super-Master will use a wire diameter of .273 (considerably close to IMs wire diameter of .281) Based on the measurements of my BBMs to my IM #3s, my BBMs measure 12-14 1000ths narrower. The Elites use a wire diameter of .292 The Special-Elite will have a diameter of .306 The Special-Elite will fall between the Elite and SuperE and #4 The Super-Elites and #4s use a wire diameter of .312 The Worldclass uses a .342 wire diameter. Tetting stated he is considering a gripper with a .331 diameter which would rank this one between the #4 and the WC. Lest anyone should think this, I am not a PR guy for Tetting I helped a Gboard brother who lives over seas obtain some of his grippers because he was unable to get the grippers directly form Tetting. I did not ask why, I just helped a grip buddy out. I started a corespondance with Tetting to give updated info to Gboard members in case anyone wants a wider choice of grippers. Rick Browne
The Super-Master is proposed for May The Special-Elite proposed for June Here is his address: Warren Tetting WT Strength 1063 W. 7th Street St. Paul, MN. 55102 He is working on setting up a website but did not give a date when it will be ready. Write him a letter and tell him what your interests in grippers are. He is a real nice and personable guy.
Bill Piche
Bill...Did you squeeze the brick yet ?If so, Is it harder or easier than your old brick ? Yes. It is 2 7/8 wide I can tell you this. NO ONE who is buying these #4's will be closing them if they are truly consistent. I would not be surprised if it is just under my world class gripper. It is like a ROCK. It makes my other 4's, with the exception of a very old vintage silver crush 4, seem like wussy grippers!
Wade Gillingham
I thought the same thing about my new #4 until I got about 20 negatives in on it, then it loosened up some and is actually easier for me than my oldest #4 (about 5-6 years old), because the handles are closer. Bill, do you think this is the same gripper that Dave shows in his video? The bevel comment has me confused. The measurements Dave gave were exactly the same as my new #4 (about 2-3 months old) and my dad's new one. Have they changed again?
tmmicklabs
Thank you Bill. My # 4 and both of Dave's # 4's are just like yours. Did you get your new one to parrellel ? I cannot even budge mine.
Big Steve
I thought I was the only person with one of those beast. But I must say it is helping me. Oh but the pain, the pain it hurts soooo good! Sorry guys that is the sick side if me!!!
tmmicklabs
Wade.. My # 4 is 6 weeks old. It is 2 and 3/4 between the inside handles. It is 1/16th narrower than my Trainer. Dave's # 4's are 2 and 14/16th's if I remember correctly.
strongmitts
Wade, how's your Dad doing? How's his progress with the #4? My #4 loosened up considerably after about sixty closes. Before I did that I the handles wouldn't move. Now they move a bit and I can atleast halfway get it in my hand.
Patrik_F
Both my new double stamped #4s are about 3 inches between the inside of the handles. I wasnt too happy about getting 2 #4s that were very similiar in strength and both not really narrow. The spring is set very high, higher than the top of the handle and they are very very hard even at the start. It would be cool to have an old singlestamped #4 with perhaps lower handle set to compare and ofc more narrow handle spread for my average size hands. tmmicklabs
I think my # 4 is deffective. I just had my buddy stand on it with both feet and it did not even budge. Any he weighs 240 pounds. Are any of your guys with # 4's able to chest close it our close it on a bathroom scale and get the readings ?

RSW
I can chest close my double stamped #4 (vintage 2002), but there is no way I could close it on my scale. How about a World class? Anyone chest close one of those? Robert

I cannot even budge mine. I disagree if it's the one Dave is using in the video. The spring mounting seems to indicate they are not the same. Sybersnott
My original #4 was seasoned by PDA. It doesn't matter - it's still a friggin' brick!!
