Mm Set Practice

There are several different blocks widths, which one will put the gripper handles to parallel. I want to practice for mash monster certs.

It will technically depend on the size of the gripper spring, but typically 20 mm will get you to parallel.

Current Goal: MM0

I honestly do very little block set training. I train mostly MMS and when I get ready for a MM cert I practice pausing the MMS set. Here are the pics they have posted in the Mash Monster section demonstrating the set distance: http://www.mashmonster.com/set/. Not sure if you saw these. This is what they are looking for.

"A lot of men train to be pretty, I train to be the strongest man in the world, then again I'm already pretty." -Magnus Samuelsson

"You don't have to be fat to be strong!" - Svend Karlsen

"I know it doesn't just come from playing with yourself" - Svend Karlsen talking to Magnus Samuelsson about closing the COC #4.

"Everybody pulls for David, nobody roots for Goliath" - Wilt Chamberlain

Parallel on my #3 is roughly 17mm.

from my experience, it is hard to switch from an MM set to block sets, but not the other way around... so if you wanna compete - i'd concentrate on the blocks... MMS pretty straightforward and requires little practice

Thanks guys. I though 20mm looked right but felt too close.

Good pics I had not seen those.

When setting a gripper I set it as deep as I can and then open it up to the distance I'm training and then close. I feel stronger that way, do y'all think thats a disadvantage? I know there is no momentum but does that make a big difference?

These are the min distance and with a GREAT view and great picture quality. Most cannot get to this level in a video these days. So, make it a no-brainer and clearly go a bit beyond this distance. The judging tends to be pretty strict -- that is borderline closes if there is a question will normally get red-lighted due to typically not being able to see clearly (even hands getting in the way!).

Good point.

Then when I practiced for MM-certs, I did lot of closes over "MM-SET". I mean about 25mm between handles. This is also better way for judging your certs.

Please watch this and you understand what I mean:

The last was open (MM7). Ignore it.

Thanks, great video.

25mm is what I'm going to shoot for, I think i'm wasting a lot of energy trying to set it too deep.

It´s good to set gripper really deep but after good setting you must dare open gripper handles over parallel (+20mm), hold one second and then BUM!
