Removable Thick Bar Sleeves...

I workout at the local YMCA but would like to do some thick bar training. I was thinking that it would be possible to make removable sleeves that would attach onto a Standard bar and give effectivly turn any bar into a thick handled bar. I was wondering if something like this exists currently or if anyone had tried to make something like this? I was thinking of a sleeve(or sleeves is you want 2 small ones so that you could also use them on fixed weight dumbells) that would go over the bar that would then somehow be clamped to the bar to hold it tight.

Anyone have any ideas?

To my current knowledge, the answer is NO.

BTW, why not bring your own thick bar to the Y?? Get the one from NYB... it weighs about twenty pounds, and you can carry it anywhere.

The answer is Yes. You are gonna have to do some searching on the net and the info may even be on the GripBoard. There is a product that clamps on to the bar; it looks like a thick handgrip, and you place one where your hand will grip the bar.

I know I'm not of much help; but, I know there is a product to meet your need. You just need to find it.

Good Luck!

Incindium, What I did with an adjustible dumbell was get A piece of pipe that fit over my bar and added duct tape till I got my desired thickness. If this doesn't help try

The Ivanko thick grips are about the only solution. You cannot be taking apart a bar at the YMCA and sliding on sleeves to make it thicker!

Thanks you guys for the help. With the mention of the Ivanko thick grips I was able to locate it. They are actually called Ivanko EZ-Grips.

Here are the relevant websites I found.

I still would be interested in possibly making my own some time because because the Ivanko ones are contoured to fit your hands rather than being round like a thick bar which I think defeats part of the purpose. But i'll probably be getting the Ivanko ones sometime soon. I'll post back about them once I get them in case anyone else is interested.
