Mephistopholes
So, I've got this huge 3" diameter dumbbell handle. I love it, but it's a whole different beast than any other grip tools I've got. I've looked around the site a bit, and haven't really found anybody talking about using handles this thick. So I'm just curious, is anybody else out there using 3" dumbells? And if so, what kind of results/progress are you seeing? And how do you like to use it? climber511
I have a 3" DB handle - it will be used in the Medley portion of my Gripmas contest. Weight will be around 110# or so I expect - it will have to be loaded onto a bench. I don't train with it except a few lifts in the last couple weeks leading up to the contest. Mephistopholes
Interesting. I like to use mine for doing a clean and press or push press. Or just heavy cleans. It's generates some hellacious torque on your hands.
barbe705
I have a 3" handle I use from time to time. the problem is that at that width it's usually so light I can get much more wrist into the lift than normal. as such , I don't know how well it carries over to other thick bar. it's more of a weird pinch than anything. Cannon
I believe Adam Glass has 3" dumbbells and a 3" axle in his gym.

Yeah it definitely puts the thumb to heavier use, especially depending on your hand size. I don't know about the wrist really... I think it has a lot of general grip strength carryover though, not strictly thick bar strength.
